PLATTSVILLE, ON- Following a headline stealing wreck at Sauble Speedway on July 25th, OSCAAR Tour competitor Shawn Chenoweth was widely thought to be done with Super Late Model racing for 2015. However, after consulting chassis manufacturer Mike McColl, ‘The Mastodon’ has announced his London Recreational Racing-backed team is not quite ready to pack it in just yet.
“We’re way too stupid to quit,” says Chenoweth with a laugh. “Mike McColl came down to the shop on Monday afternoon and said it was fixable. So, she’s going for some surgery and we’re making plans to get back”
An established star in the Pro Late Model realm, Chenoweth hopes to return as quickly as possible to the Super Late Model tour to continue his push for his first career OSCAAR victory.
“The OSCAAR tour is something we haven’t won on. We can’t let that go,” says the blue collar veteran matter-of-factly. “As soon as the trailer was rolling out of the Sauble pit area, we were going over options to get back on the tour. We don’t give up. It’s just not our style”
After consulting with McColl earlier this week, Chenoweth’s chassis has already been delivered to McColl Racing Enterprise’s London, ON facility for repair.
“It’s on the jig now and we’re full steam ahead on getting it back together again,” explains Chenoweth. “The guys at MRE are absolute experts at this stuff, so I know that we’re in good hands. They haven’t given us a finish date as of yet, but it’s not out of the question that we’ll be ready for Sunset on August 22nd”
“I feel like I say this on a weekly basis, but it’s never been more true. I’m nothing without my sponsors,” continues Chenoweth. “I’m not a trust fund kid. There’s no endless supply of money backing me. If I didn’t have sponsors, I’d be at home on the couch”
Chenoweth goes on to credit London Recreational Racing boss Mike Schmidt for giving him the opportunity to repair the Chenoweth team’s lone chassis for competition.
“In this case, if it wasn’t for Mike I’d be in the shop staring at a pile of bent parts until next winter,” notes the former Autumn Colours Classic Pro Late Model champion. “He stepped up huge. Just like he always has. I owe more to him than I could ever explain”
“We hadn’t even unloaded after wrecking and he was calling asking us what we needed to get back out,” remembers ‘The Mastodon’. “He’s incredible. And, most importantly, he’s just as insane as we are when it comes to racing. He’s giving us a second chance at this – and we’re going to get him some wins in return.”

Shawn Chenoweth’s return to the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour is made possible thanks to the support of London Recreational, Bennett GM, KR Communications, Midas of Orangeville, Castrol Edge, Hitman Hotrods, Wilson Ponds, Graybar, McColl Racing Enterprises, Innerkip Plumbing and Heating, ProWraps and Automotive Truck & Tire.
