PLATTSVILLE, ON- After an emphatic victory in Round 4 of the APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Products at Flamboro Speedway, veteran Shawn Chenoweth will roll into Peterborough Speedway on July 18th as a driver to watch as the 1/3-mile oval hosts Round 5 of the upstart tour.
“Peterborough is one of my favourite tracks on the tour,” says the former Autumn Colours Classic champion. “It’s a lot of fun – but man it can take a lot out of you if you aren’t careful. It’s a driver’s race track. There’s no doubt about that. You know when you sign in at the gate in the afternoon that you’re in for a test”
‘The Mastodon’ will enter the 100-lap event looking to become the first driver in series history to win two events. When asked how he entails to pull off the feat, the veteran explained that starting position will play a major role in how the race sorts itself out.
“This race isn’t much different than any other round of the tour in that you want to make sure you’re in the redraw,” notes Chenoweth. “Except, this time, you have to pray that you pull an odd number and start on the inside”
“I’ve never personally seen anyone make the outside work in 1 and 2 at Peterborough,” continues the former Flamboro Speedway titlist. “You can get a run on the outside going down the straightaways, and into 3 and 4, but you better hope you make that pass before you get to turn-1”
“If you can keep control of the bottom, you’ll be in really good shape all night long”
Fresh off of his Round 4 win, Chenoweth will enter Peterborough as the series points leader. And, if his most recent performance is any indication, could be on his way to a second-half of the season strong enough to earn his Paul Law-owned team the first ever APC Series title.
“We have all the momentum in the world right now after winning Flamboro,” says Chenoweth. “I’ve had some great runs at Peterborough in the past, and I hope we can channel some of that on Saturday night. Winning two events back to back on this tour seems impossible with the amount of talent we’re all racing against – but I believe we have the program to get the job done”
“The points don’t mean a whole lot yet, because we still have a long way to go. But, I’ll tell you this much, I sure as hell would sooner be leading the points than sitting in 17th right now”
“I’m not worried about stats – that’s not my job,” continues the fan-favourite. “I don’t worry about what drivers have won at which tracks. Or who sits where in the points before every event. My job is to unload on Saturday morning, figure out how to maximize this car’s potential and then drive to the front of the field when it’s go time. That’s what I’m focusing on ahead of Saturday night.”
