INNISFIL, ON- After a frustrating DNF in the opening round of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour at Sunset Speedway on May 17th, rookie Sean Grosman bounced back with a top-5 performance in the tour’s return on June 6th.
‘The Frequent Flyer’ earned top-qualifier honours in Round 1, before a mid-race incident with a fellow competitor left him relegated to the sidelines before the halfway point. Entering June 6th’s event, Grosman was forthcoming with how valuable a strong performance would be to his SMG Motorsports team.
“We wanted badly to come back to Sunset and do well,” says Grosman. “It was almost like returning to the scene of the crime for us. Round 1 was incredibly frustrating for us, and we knew that the only way to put it behind us was to come out and fashion the kind of performance that we know we’re capable of”
The North Miami, FL resident spent much of the race running amongst the leaders, after debuting a brand new setup package crafted by Crew Chief Ryan Kimball.
“As good as this car was in the opener, it was even better on Saturday night,” explains the former Sunset regular. “My only complaint in Round 1 was that we were fighting a bit of a tight condition. So Ryan and the rest of the guys worked nonstop the last two weeks to develop a brand new setup for us to come back with”
“The package we had on Saturday night was something completely new to us – and it worked awesome”
For Grosman, the 4th place finish is a sign of things to come. The former Ltd. Late Model feature winner will look for a podium finish in Round 4 of the tour at Sunset on June 27th.
“I felt as though we would be more than capable of running at the front of the field at Sunset – and we proved that on Saturday,” says the Rookie of the Year contender. “The guys that finished ahead of us have quite a few more laps in these cars than I do, and if we can continue to improve I think that we’ll have even more for them when we come back to Sunset at the end of June”
“We’ve been fortunate with the way the early-season schedule has worked out,” continues Grosman. “Sunset is, without question, our strongest track. We’re going to bank as many points here before we head out on the road and the real learning curve begins.”
Sean Grosman’s 2015 OSCAAR Super Late Model Rookie of the Year effort is supported by For Your Eyes Only of Toronto, The Landing Strip Gentleman’s Club of Toronto, Flagship Properties, SL Promotions and Rylex Glass & Mirror.
