@sswracing •HALIFAX, NS – (February 23, 2016) – Scotia Speedworld is excited to present their 2016 racing schedule. The calendar for the summer of racing begins in May and runs through September, with 21 racing cards over 17 weekends.

Entering its 29th consecutive season, Scotia Speedworld is the only facility in Nova Scotia that offers a weekly racing series program, running on Friday evenings at 7:00pm all season.

The season opens on Saturday, May 21st at 4:00pm with the first event on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. The popular regional touring series will race four times at Scotia Speedworld in 2016, with additional races on June 18th, the 17th Annual Atlantic Cat 250 on August 13th and the season finale for the series on September 17th. The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour will support the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour on May 21st, August 13th and September 17th.

The Sportsman division will see four extended features during the 2016 season. The marquee division on the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series will headline Canada Day with the 22nd Annual Shriners Classic, along with 50 lap features on June 17th and August 19th. The Sportsman 100 will open the Atlantic Cat 250 weekend on Friday, August 12th. Last season, Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside) took home not only the season long championship, but also won the Shriners Classic and the 100-lap feature on Atlantic Cat 250 weekend.

The Coors Light Truck schedule is highlighted by an extended 50-lap feature on August 19th. The convoy of tailgaters will also return as the undercard on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour 150-lap feature on June 18th. Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) is on the “drive for five” in 2016 after winning the last four consecutive Coors Light Truck Championships – a feat that has never been pulled off in the 28-year history of the race track.

The Strictly Hydraulics Legend division will race their extended 50-lap feature as a part of INEX Night on Friday, June 17th. Their INEX counterparts, the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero division, will also race an extended feature on INEX Night as the young guns will duke it out for 25-laps. Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) took home a nail biting championship win in the Strictly Hydraulics Legend division in 2015 while Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, Outlaw) and Josh Langille (Coldbrook, Bandit) won Hydraulics Plus Bandolero crowns in their respective age groups.
