NORTH MIAMI, FL- Super Late Model rookie Sean Grosman is set for his first career OSCAAR Tour appearance at Sauble Speedway this Saturday. ‘The Frequent Flyer’ will enter Round 4 of the tour sitting 5th in the championship standings, and hopes to close in on the top-3 with a strong performance at the tight quarter-mile bullring.
“It’s no secret that all of this is brand new to us,” laughs Grosman when asked his outlook on his first Super Late Model start at ‘the Beach;. “This whole season is built on trial and error. Ryan and I are constantly debating and brainstorming ways to make this car better. When we first brought this car home, it was completely foreign to all of us. Everything we’ve learned so far has been accomplished by, essentially, throwing different combinations at it and seeing which ones stick”
Grosman is eager to follow up on a 7th place finish in Round 3 of the tour at Delaware Speedway on July 10th.
“Delaware was a great opportunity to log some laps at a track that our team had never been to,” notes the Florida native. “We came out of our first trip there with our car in one piece and a top-10 finish in our hip pocket. That’s the template of what I’m aiming for in every race this season. We just want to work within our limitations and learn and grow from there”
“At Sauble, I’m hoping to learn with every lap we spend on the track,” continues Grosman. “I raced there years ago in a Limited Late Model, but that was a long time ago. We’re just going to use the practice and qualifying sessions as a way to get comfortable. Once we know what we have, and what we need to do on track, then we can worry about moving forward”
In the days leading up to the 50-lap event, Grosman admits he’s dedicated himself to learning as much as he can about the challenging facility, with hopes of giving his SMG Motorsports a leg up in Saturday’s event.
“I’ve been watching all the footage that I can ahead of Saturday,” explains Grosman. “That’s my homework for the week. So far, it doesn’t seem like an easy place to get a hold of. It’s so unique. When you have a bullring like that, it’s difficult to plan for or formulate a game plan. Things happen fast in close quarters. You can’t predict it – you just have to roll with it”
“We’ve been adapting to new tracks, new competitors and a new car all season. Adapting to Sauble just kind of fits with what our role has been this year,” adds the former road course regular. “As soon as we get there on Saturday morning, we’ll be ready to learn and ready to work. Hopefully, with that attitude, we can parlay our first tour race there into something positive.”
