@SarahMcKay32 • @TweetTimsCorner • QUISPAMSIS, NB – When it’s too cold to race up north, as ice and snow cover local tracks in Canada, what is there to do over the long winter nights? If you are Sarah McKay, you head to where you can race!

McKay and her Sarah McKay Racing team will be heading to New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida during the month of February for the 49th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

The Quispamsis, New Brunswick based team will be fielding both a Super Late Model and Pro Late Model in the prestigious nine day event. Both cars will fly the colors A.E. McKay Builders and Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange as primary marketing partners for the week and will be overseen by veteran crew chief and car builder Geoff Armstrong of Saint John, New Brunswick.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to race at the World Series this February,” said McKay about the event. “Our team has been fully dedicated and working hard on our race cars to make them as competitive as possible. We know that racing in the south, against the competition that the World Series brings, is a whole different ball game, but we are ready to accept the challenge.”

The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway features nine nights of stock car racing on the lightning fast half mile, high banked oval. The event officially kicks off on Friday, February 13 with the first night of racing. Both the Pro Late Model and Super Late Model class will run every night, with the exception of Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16. Highlights of the event include 50 lap events for the both Late Model classes on Thursday, February 19 and the Super Late Model 100 on Saturday, February 21, the final night of the event.

This will mark McKay’s first stock car start south of the border. McKay, an accomplished kart racer, made the move to Late Model Sportsman cars at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick in 2013, winning the Rookie of the Year in the class before moving to the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour in 2014.

McKay became the first female in series history to run with the top regional touring series in Atlantic Canada and took home the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year Award. She also took part in numerous open invitational events in the area, highlighted by a top ten run in the prestigious 14th Annual Re/Max 250 at Speedway 660. The 18-year old also has a staunch fan base, which voted her as the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Most Popular Driver in 2014.

“Through my years of karting, I’ve realized the more you race on the bigger tracks with elite drivers, the more you learn and the more knowledge and experience you bring back home,” McKay says. “We are hoping to get some good finishes, finishing in the top ten would be our goal, but mainly to get as much experience as possible to benefit our program in Atlantic Canada.”

Fans are encouraged to follow Sarah McKay Racing on social media for all the updates on Sarah’s racing career and her upcoming journey to Florida and the 49th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
