Stroud, ON (July 6, 2017)- Despite suffering a flat tire in the feature, Ryan Semple would fight back to score a top-10 finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The Semple Motorsports representative started off the night with a runner-up in his first heat, followed by a victory in the second qualifier.
Starting mid-pack for the feature, he began to make up ground early, running 11th with just three laps on the board. He then avoided a wreck ahead of him on the restart to continue gaining positions, breaking into the top-10 in the early stages. Though as he continued making his forward, contact happened with a fellow competitor, resulting in a cut-tire on Lap 6, sending him down pit road under caution.
Restarting in 13th, Semple made his way back into the top-10 by the halfway mark, getting alongside Gerrit Tiemersma for ninth at Lap 17, completing the pass a lap later. He would then pass Jade Franklin to move up to eighth by Lap 20. Semple was unable to make up much ground after that, battling back and forth with Franklin through the last 10 laps, ultimately crossing the finish line in the eighth position.
So far this season, Semple has been impressive on a weekly basis, with this past weekend marking just his second finish outside of the top-five. He will look to capture his first feature victory of the year on July 8. He currently sits second in the points standings, 16 markers behind Jordan Howse for the top spot.
