Trois-Rivieres, Que. August 11, 2013. Martin Roy showed he was a contender on Sunday at the JuliaWine.com 100, his finish hindered by minor vehicle trouble.
The #90 Batteries Expert/Gamache Dodge required only slight tweaks after a solid practice for the team. The car continued to be strong through qualifying, where Roy earned a seventh place start for the race.
Roy expertly navigated himself into the top five at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, running as high as second place. However, the #90 ran into some trouble among the aggressive field, getting caught up in an early incident. The contact with another driver resulted in a buckled hood, reducing his visibility on the track.
Roy pushed through the remaining laps of the JuliaWine.com 100, while working to overcome left brake issues. He eventually finished in sixth place, gaining one spot from his original starting position.
“The car was very strong. I ran up front with the leaders, racing competitively with Villenueve and Tagliani,” Roy said after the race. “With the brake trouble, it was tough to hold on but I’m pleased with our finish and to collect some solid championship points.”
After Sunday’s contest, Martin Roy sits comfortably in sixth place with 271 points, 16 points ahead of the seventh place driver.
