Fraserville, Ont. September 22, 2013- Martin Roy overcame a rocky qualifying to earn a Top 5 finish in Sunday’s Pinty’s 250 at Kawartha Speedway.
Practice started off uneventful for Martin Roy and his team in Kawartha, but the team ran into mechanical trouble when their Batteries Expert/Veolce/Gamache Dodge broke a trailing arm. They battled their way through qualifying and were slated to start 16th.
“We definitely had a better car than our qualifying,” said Crew Chief Mario Gosselin.
When the race kicked off, Roy’s goal was to methodically move forward. As other drivers began to pit for fresh tires, he opted to continue to advance and improve track position.
Roy strategically moved forward in the field, eventually breaking into the top five, which Gosselin credits to Roy’s skills behind the wheel.
“Once the tires had a few laps on them, then the driving became critical and that’s where Martin excelled,” Gosselin said after the race.
Roy’s tactics paid off and he crossed the finish line in fifth place.
“We definitely had another good season,” Roy said. “We ran very consistently with the top drivers in the arrows and are competitive every weekend. We’re ready to capture a victory.”
After the final contest of the year in Kawartha, Martin Roy claims fourth place in the overall standings with 429 points.
