COLDWATER, ON- Third-generation racer Jordan Latimer will look to continue his recent hot streak this Saturday, August 30th at Barrie Speedway. The Ridge Road Racing representative is working towards a strong finish to his freshman campaign, and is only 2 nights away from clinching the 2014 Thunder Car Rookie of the Year title.
Latimer has notched back to back 3rd place finishes, including an impressive effort in his most recent outing on August 23rd.
“These are exactly the kinds of runs we need to close out our year”, explains Latimer. “This team has worked so hard the last two months. There were weeks in which it felt like we couldn’t anything right. From setup problems to motor issues, we were struggling with everything. To be able to bounce back from that with some solid finishes is such a rewarding feeling”
“Last Saturday, I felt as though we had the best car on the track in the early laps”, continues Latimer. “We made it to 3rd and were running down the leaders, but the car faded at the end. We’ll take a podium finish, though. Especially since we had to start at the back”
Jordan will enter August 30th 2nd in overall Barrie Speedway Thunder Car points, with a commanding lead in the race for the 2014 Rookie of the Year crown.
“Right now, we’re on pace to hit all of the goals we set out for ourselves in the Winter”, beams the former Karting standout. “We wanted a top-3 finish in the points, the Rookie of the Year title and our first feature win. This season has been awesome. There have been a few bumps in the road, but thanks to the Ridge Road Racing team and my Dad, we’ve gotten through it all”
When asked his short-term goals, Latimer exudes confidence and exhibits the poise and grace of a veteran much older than his 15-years.
“Week-to-week, the goals I set for myself are just to keep learning and keep improving”, says Latimer. “There’s so many veterans in this pit area, and so much knowledge kicking around that all you have to do is stop and listen. I’m grateful for anyone that’s offered me advice this season. It goes a long way”
“Obviously, I want to win every week. But as long as I’m loading up at the end of the night feeling like I’m better than I was at the beginning of the night, I consider that a victory”
