STROUD, ON (May 8, 2018)- The season has officially begun for Rick Spencer-Walt as he was able to leave Sunset Speedway’s opening night with a top-10 finish.
With limited pre-season testing, the team was able to qualify in the top-10 for the first feature, running upfront throughout the 35 laps en route to a solid eighth-place finish.
With adjustments made, Spencer-Walt started the second feature in eighth, avoiding a couple early incidents, before making the move to the runner-up by Lap 2. He ran in that position over the next section of the feature, before being passed at Lap 10.
From there on, he battled hard, but fighting the handling on the No. 31 Late Model saw him slowly fade, ultimately running fifth with 10 laps to go. This would bring forth a battle for position with fellow competitor Gord Shepherd, with contact taking place at Lap 28, sending Spencer-Walt around in turn two. There would be some controversy under yellow, that ultimately ended the race early for Spencer-Walt Motorsports.
The team will now look to re-group and evaluate their options, before moving forward on plans for the rest of the season.
