Stroud, ON (June 20, 2017)- Starting up front, Rick Spencer-Walt put together a solid feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Under the new group car qualifying format, Spencer-Walt was able to lay down the second quickest lap to start outside pole for the 35-lap feature.
Starting up front, he’d battle side-by-side with Nick Goetz for the lead through the first three laps, before falling in line in second. He’d run there solidly till the first caution of the event with 14 laps to go.
Restarting second, he’d fall in line once again behind Goetz, till Gord Shepherd got to his outside at Lap 25. The battle was short lived, as a result of a second caution for a big wreck in turn one.
Restarting second once again, he was able to drop down in line behind Goetz, continuing to follow close without challenge from behind. He was unable to catch the leader, though, crossing the finish line in second.
The second feature would’ve saw him start 11th, but it was not run as a result of a steady shower falling shortly after intermission. As a result, the plan is to make up the feature on the next night of racing – meaning that they will run triple features.
The runner-up finish continues to add to this season’s results, though, marking the third podium finish in seven features this season. Spencer-Walt will be back at Sunset Speedway on June 24, hopeful for his fourth feature victory of 2017.
