STROUD, ON (September 12, 2017)- The strong finishes continue for Rick Spencer-Walt at Sunset Speedway, as he scored a pair of top-fives this past Saturday night.
Starting the first feature from the fourth position, he ran there through the early stages, keep close to the top-three contenders without dealing with much pressure from behind. He would get alongside Chris Morrow for third, completing the pass with seven laps to go. He would work at tracking down the top-two, but was unable to do as he crossed the finish line third.
The second feature saw him start from the third position, but he would drop back to fourth in the early stages before the first caution at Lap 5. Restarting inside the top-five, he would get by Lane Zardo to move back up into third after the restart. Without any cautions through the remainder of the event, Spencer-Walt found himself right behind the top-two, even looking underneath Ron Quesnelle for second on a couple of occasions. Ultimately, he was unable to complete the pass, crossing the finish line in third once again.
The top-fives continue to add to this season’s results, though, marking 14 podium finishes in 26 features this season. Notably, the team has now posted 10 top-four finishes in the last 12 features at Sunset Speedway. He entered Saturday night sitting third in the track standings, and ninth in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) points, just six markers behind eighth. The NWAAS puts Sunset’s drivers up against competitors from 60 different tracks across North America, with each driver earning points based on their finishes at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks.
Spencer-Walt will be back in action on Saturday, September 16 for the final points night on the schedule.
