@Rwalt31 • @Sunset_Speedway •#Velocity250 •Stroud, ON (September 30, 2016)- Throughout the entire Velocity weekend, Rick Spencer-Walt battled hard and came away with a solid sixth place finish.
Spencer-Walt started out the weekend well in qualifying, winning his first heat by a bumper over Sunset Speedway regular Chris Morrow, followed by a third-place finish in his second heat.

Starting 12th for the 75-lap feature, he immediately began to work his way forward, finding himself alongside Taylor Holdaway for ninth at Lap 7. Spencer-Walt was able to clear Holdaway for the spot before the second caution fell two laps later.

Spencer-Walt got a good restart, continuing to gain ground as he got alongside Nick Goetz for seventh at Lap 17. The pair continued to run side-by-side through the first third of the feature, with Spencer-Walt able to clear Goetz for the spot at Lap 23.

His progress was stalled out, though, as he fell back a couple spots through the next five laps. Fortunately, the stall-out didn’t last long as he was able to get back up to eighth at Lap 34, running there till the third caution flew at Lap 43.

The next couple of restarts went Spencer-Walt’s way as he able to make a lot of ground, getting alongside Dwayne Baker for fourth at Lap 45. However, he fell back on the next restart to sixth, battling alongside Brandon Watson for the spot at Lap 49. Spencer-Walt was able to clear Watson on Lap 53, taking the sixth spot.

It looked like the progress would continue as he got alongside Tom Walters for fifth at Lap 57, though was unable to complete the pass as he fell back inline. From there on, he was unable to make up any ground, crossing the line with a solid sixth place finish.

It’s worth nothing in 12 races races this season (eight at Peterborough, three at Sunset, one at Sauble), Spencer-Walt has five wins and 12 top-six finishes.

Spencer-Walt expressed pleasure with the results post-race, stating it was a solid run to start-off the short track playoffs.

He hopes the positive momentum turns into success at the Autumn Colours Classic, at Peterborough Speedway where he is set to start on the pole after winning the Chase for the Colours. After winning the track championship this year, the motivation is certainly there to make it happen this season after coming up short last year.

“We have something to prove and hopefully we can close this year,” Spencer-Walt commented as part of the championship interview. Think our speed out there is going to surprise some people when they get there with us!”
