HILLSDALE, ON- After months of preparation and shop time, ‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ Thayne Hallyburton unveiled his brand new Port City Racing chassis at Sunset Speedway’s inaugural Spring Derby 100 presented by Great Lakes Concrete on May 4th.
“First and foremost, I think this was an awesome event”, said Hallyburton post-race. “I love this facility. I love these fans and the atmosphere here. Our team was excited for the 2014 season before we unloaded this afternoon, but after today, we’re ecstatic for what this season has in store”
The event proved trying at times for Hallyburton’s team, as they worked feverishly for much of the day to diagnose a handling issue that kept their No. 14 mired in traffic.
“You’re going to face a couple of speed bumps any time you debut a new car”, mused Hallyburton. “We were certainly aiming for an easier afternoon, but I was proud of the way my team worked through every challenge they faced”
“This past week was a wash, in terms of practice”, Hallyburton continued. “We need more track time. There’s no substitute for practice. We have two weeks before our next start, and I’m confident that with the amount of practice we can fit in between now and then, we’ll have a much better performance the next time these fans see us”
Hallyburton and team refuse to view the 21st place finish as a setback, opting instead to focus on the task at hand – readying their ride for their next Sunset appearance on May 17th.
“We’re in this for the long haul”, stated Hallyburton matter-of-factly. “Every single guy on this team believes in this program. We believe that we’ve got a race winning team and race winning equipment. We were under this car for a solid hour after it rolled off the track and know what needs to be done before it hits the track next. It’ll make for a couple long nights in the shop, no question, but we’re hoping it will pay dividends on May 17th”.
Thayne Hallyburton is proudly supported by Thompson Enterprises, Baker Performance Parts and Hillsdale Service Centre.
