@andrew_ranger •@NASCARHomeTrack •#NASCARPintysSeries • Mirabel, QC (July 3, 2016)- Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team expected to continue their success at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec during round number four of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series on Sunday. There were some dramatic moments over the weekend but when the checkered flag flew Ranger claimed his second victory of the year, his fourth at the circuit and took over the championship points lead.
During the first practice session on Saturday Ranger posted the quickest time around the 14-turn course but only completed a handful of laps in the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge. After consultation with his crew they skipped the second practice to change motors.
“We didn’t want to take any chances,” said the driver.
Once the fresh motor was installed in time for qualifying Ranger recorded the second quickest lap and started the 100km event on the outside of the front row.
When the race began Sunday afternoon Ranger saw an opening right away and powered the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge into the lead. A year ago Ranger was the hunter for most of the race and came up a little short, he was determined not to let that happen again.
“You can better manage the race when you are in the lead” he explained.
Ranger managed his lead and kept the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge at the front of the field as the race ran green until lap 21 when the caution flag waved for debris. On the restart three laps later Ranger powered ahead of the rest of the field and held on for the final laps to claim his second win of the season.
“I knew I wanted to be aggressive on the restart and now we’ve got another win and the lead in the Championship” he stated. “Big thanks to the whole team for all the hard work, to win again at home is fantastic”.
After four events Andrew Ranger leads the overall championship point standings by six points.
Of note: The win at Circuit ICAR is the 22nd series win of Rangers career, and is the career series wins record.
Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team will be back in action July 16th at the Toronto Indy weekend.
