August 31, 2014- Andrew Ranger recorded his fifth career pole position starting spot at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series this past weekend. The #27 Mopar Parts Dodge driver set a new track record with that lap and led the first eight circuits of the race, however a mechanical issue would sabotage their finishing result.
The #27 Mopar Parts Dodge was fast right from the start of practice and during the final practice Ranger paced the field before setting a new series qualifying record at the famed 10 turn road course with a lap of 1:23.261 seconds.
Ranger battled with the #84 car during the first few race laps and kept the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge out front of the field. Knowing that 51 laps was a long race distance Ranger allowed the competitor to take the point.
“I didn’t want to push the car too hard in the early going” he said. “I wanted to make sure I could fight hard at the end of the race,” he added.
The race had a long green flag run from the start and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge encountered their first hiccup after stopping for fuel when they were assessed a pit road speeding penalty. The team’s difficulties would only get worse. After returning to the race Ranger knew soon that something was amiss with the car.
Returning the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge to pit road again the team clamored under the hood to assess the issue. Several remedies were tried but still nothing seemed to solve the mechanical issues. Ranger would be classified 29th in the race.
“It’s very frustrating to have such a good car and something like this happen” he said. “Sometimes it does though and you have to deal with it, you just want to come back and better the next time”.
Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team at back in action this coming weekend for round number ten of the series this Saturday September 6th at Barrie Speedway, just north of Barrie, ON.
Of note: Andrew Ranger also participated in the NASCAR Truck series event during the weekend at CTMP and collected a fifth place result.
