(July 15, 2017) TORONTO, ON- Andrew Ranger scored the 20th pole of his career in the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge for round number five of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in Toronto and led the field to the green flag on Saturday afternoon at Exhibition Place. While leading the field early in the race once again Ranger was contacted by an opponent at suffered significant damage to his car taking him out of contention for the victory.
The #27 Mopar Parts Dodge was blazing fast on Friday afternoon with Ranger at the wheel securing the premier starting position, nearly two tenths of a second ahead of the nearest competitor. Ranger was pleased with his car and the hard work by the team.
“The car felt very good, great work by the whole Mopar team and it’s a long race and we’ll need to be there at the end,” he stated following qualifying.
Ranger would lead the first four laps in the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge and hoped to settle into a comfortable but quick pace and be there for the end as he stated. However on lap five Ranger would suffer contact from another competitor sending him hard into the concrete wall.
“You can’t win the race that soon,” he stated. “If you pass me that’s one thing but once again we get hit and our chance for a win goes away,” he added.
The #27 Mopar Parts Dodge suffered severe damage and as the team attempted make shift repairs. While he would return to the action Ranger would go two laps down to the field.
“We don’t want to be just driving around but we need to try and get as many championship points as we can” he explained.
Andrew Ranger would bring the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge home to a 15th place finish. After five events Ranger sits – in the overall championship standings.
Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team now head west for back-to-back events in the prairies, the first on Wednesday July 26th at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
