Southern Ontario Race Fans and Race Teams are no doubt aware that the 2012 NASCAR Season has started. Some are anxiously awaiting first events for Formula 1 … the Izod IndyCar Series and all of us are counting down the days leading up to Merrittville Speedway’s 61st Consecutive Season. With a move back to 50 thousand watt power-house News Talk 610 CKTB in St. Catharines, the Raceline Radio Network will reach more race fans than ever before in the new Sunday Night 8 PM Time Slot – providing coverage of all forms of the sport.
“The Bicknell and Williamson families have been fabulous partners with The Raceline Radio Network on our local Niagara affiliate since they purchased the Speedway! Merrittville is such a huge icon in the sport, we are very proud to be associated them into season # 61,” stated Raceline Radio Network anchor/producer Erik Tomas.
Erik Tomas caught the racing bug when his father took him to the races when he was 7 years old and the sport has followed him everywhere since. A fact that has such a familiar ring to it as there are so many stories of second, third and fourth generation family involvement throughout the grandstands and the pit area at the Thorold DIRTcar sanctioned d-shaped oval.
Erik and his wife Janice met at the races and their daughter Katelyn has become an integral part of Merrittville Speedway’s Scoring Team – a role that Janice played herself when her father Kurt Uhl owned the facility with Stan Friesen.
“I have such a long-standing personal connection to this facility, so I always make sure their marketing not only gets maximum traction in Niagara, but across Canada on Raceline as well! With the move back to News Talk 610 CKTB, and a live airing at 8 o’clock on Sunday nights, the date-specific spots especially designed for a very unique advertising approach, keeps fans updated week-to-week what’s happening at Merrittville! It’s beyond perfect,” Tomas added.
Tomas’ resume includes announcing duties at Merrittville and Ransomville Speedways over the years in addition to the former Molson Indy in Toronto, Toronto Maple Leaf Television broadcasts, World of Outlaw Late Model and Super DIRT Week hosting and various Radio Station roles and the Raceline Radio Network.
“It just seems like yesterday that Raceline began and now Erik and his staff have been grass roots and world events … and everything in between,” said (Merrittville Speedway General Manager) Erica Bicknell-Jones, “with the new time slot … race fans will be up to speed right away and get excited about the next race.”
The Raceline Radio Network is Canada’s first and Canada’s only nationally syndicated motorsport radio program. Celebrating its 20th anniversary season on the air in 2012, Raceline is heard in 15 major broadcast markets, along with numerous on-line, cable and podcast availabilities.
Award-winning Raceline Radio is more than race results – featuring often exclusive one-on-one interviews with the racing stars and personalities that make news, year-round! Raceline Radio is your motorsport authority.
