PETERBOROUGH, ON- Late Model veteran Flyin’ Ryan Kimball continued to move closer to his first career Peterborough Speedway divisional championship on August 23rd, managing a runner-up finish in the penultimate event on the 2014 schedule.
The Norwood, ON hot-shoe would battle early on with provincial standout Kyle Donaldson, as the pair raced side-by-side through the early portions of the 25-lap contest.
“Anytime you’re racing with ‘Wheely’, you know you’re going to have to work for every inch”, commented Kimball. “The guy’s a phenomenal talent and an absolute pleasure to compete against. He made sure that we were on our A-Game tonight”
Kimball would eventually slip past Donaldson, but would finish second to multi-time Late Model champion – and 2x Autumn Colours Classic titlist – Dan McHattie.
“There’s definitely no shame finishing second to Dan at Peterborough, the guy’s a legend around these parts”, said Kimball.
“I wanted a win tonight, but after putting on a show like that, I’m happy with second”, continued Kimball. “We stuck to the game plan tonight. We wanted to come in here and lay down a strong finish to keep us on top of the points and build some momentum for the big shows that are coming up”
The Janzen Racing representative will now enter the final night of Peterborough Speedway competition with a 76-point lead, with hopes of securing his first career Late Model title at the 1/3 mile oval.
“I really couldn’t be happier with the way this season has gone”, smiled Flyin’ Ryan. “I’ve been so fortunate to find myself aligned with Wally Janzen [of Janzen Racing] and [Primary Sponsor] Sean Grosman. Without these two, none of this would have been possible. I can’t thank them enough”
“Of course we’re happy with the point lead, but we don’t want to get too comfortable until our name’s on the trophy”, said Kimball. “We’re going to go into the final night of racing like any other event, and hope to put on a show and race for the win. Hopefully, once we’re done, I’ll be able to bring Wally his first championship as a car owner”
Kimball and the Janzen Racing team will complete their regular season at Peterborough Speedway this Saturday, August 30th. Details, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.PeterboroughSpeedway.com.
