BARRIE, ON- Just one week removed from a frustrating evening wrought with mechanical gremlins, Jordan Latimer returned to the Barrie Speedway Thunder Car podium on August 9th.
The third-generation star earned a 3rd place finish in Thunder Car A-Main competition, and moved back into 2nd place in the championship point standings in the process.
“This is exactly the kind of night we needed”, smiled Latimer upon clearing post-race inspection. “We got beat up last week. Just couldn’t get the car right. The motor was off, the handling was off. It just wasn’t our night. We needed a bounce back, and we got it”
The Ridge Road Racing team worked throughout the week to rectify the car’s issues, and was well rewarded for their efforts.
“I can’t say enough about my team, these guys are nothing short of amazing”, said the personable 15-year old. “We went through this car from front to back. We weren’t going to stop until we fixed our problems”
“Turns out, our motor problems traced back to the distributor”, continued Latimer. “Once we replaced it, the car ran like a dream. None of this would be possible without the Ridge Road Racing team”
Latimer’s No. 10 A/C Electric/Progressive Waste Solutions Chevrolet started 7th on the grid, and battled race-long to claw his way to the top-3.
“Our car was great in traffic tonight, which definitely came in handy”, said Latimer. “We had the power back that we’ve been lacking for a few weeks. This car felt like a rocket again. It’s a huge boost of confidence”
“Now that we have the handling back, we can work on making it faster. We have to continue making improvements and see what we can do to get this car back in victory lane”
When asked his goals for the rest of the 2014 season, the Karting graduate can’t keep from smiling.
“I’m having a blast every single time I hit the racetrack. So, keeping that going is definitely my main goal. Beyond that, I’d love more than anything to get my team another feature win, just to thank my guys for their hard work. If we can polish off this Rookie title, and finish top-3 in the points, I would consider our season a massive success”
Latimer and the Ridge Road Racing team will be back in action at Barrie Speedway this Saturday, August 16th. Details, including gate times and ticket prices, can be found at www.BarrieSpeedway.com.
