PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO… Dale Planck from Cortland, NY made his first ever trip to the Humberstone Speedway a memorable one as he picked up the win in the DIRTcar Modifieds on Super Mario’s Pizza night at the races.
18 year old sophomore driver Austin Wood from Thorold, Ontario won his first career Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Darren Peters from Stevensville, Ontario picked up the win in the Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Models main event. Rick St Pierre from Welland, Ontario was the winner of the Vintage Car feature event. Brandon Iudiciani from Welland, Ontario picked up the win in the Trackside Decals Mini Stocks while Sam Iftody from Fenwick, Ontario won his fourth Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stock feature event of the 2013 season.
Erick Rudolph and Lance Willix II led the field of DIRTcar Modifieds to the green flag and it was Rudolph getting the early lead. After a trio of cautions on the opening three circuits, Rudolph pulled away on the restarts as “the Natural” Dale Planck quickly got into second and began to chase down Rudolph. “The Real Deal” Chris Steele went side by side with Tommy Flannigan for third with Flannigan keeping the position. Planck and Rudolph went side by side on a lap eight restart and it was Planck taking over the race lead. Rudolph quickly applied the pressure on lap 10 to try to retake the lead but “the Natural”, driving the Mike Payne Motorsports entry pulled away from the third generation driver Rudolph.
The caution would fly once again at the races halfway mark as Lance Willix spun in turn one. The lap 15 restart would see Planck over power Rudolph on the top side of the speedway and would pull away from the field. Chris Steele would begin his battle with Rudolph for second but Rudolph answered the call while chasing down Planck.
“The Natural” Dale Planck would pull away late in the event and would pick up his first career win at Humberstone. Rudolph, Flannigan, Steele, and Fred Carleton completed the top five.
Jordan Cosco and Joey Mastrioanni were on the front row for the Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman feature event and it was Cosco racing into the lead. Travis Miller, who picked up his first career win just two weeks ago lost the handle on his ride to bring out the races first caution. On the restart it was Mastrioanni taking over the lead on lap three with Austin Wood, Jeff Armstrong and Dave Flannigan Jr racing in the top five. Robert Baker would bring out the caution on lap six and on the restart it was Mastrioanni continuing to show the way. Adam Leslie was on the move and entered the top five on lap 10 and began his chase of the race leaders. Leslie continued his way through the field and was up to third before the halfway mark but lost the third spot to Austin Wood. Wood went three wide with Cosco and Mastrioanni and took over the race lead on lap 13.
Adam Leslie would continue to work his way through the field and took over second place and quickly reeled in Wood. After several laps of working the top of the speedway, Leslie changed his line got to the rear nerf bar of Wood.
Austin Wood would pick up his first career win. Adam Leslie would cross the line in second and Dave Flannigan would complete the top three.
Rick St Pierre would pull away from the field for the start of the Vintage Car feature event with Tim Zack right there challenging. Zack would have rear end problems with his 7zed machine as did Dave Charczuk in his 99 ride. St Pierre would pull away on the restart with Brian Page in second and Mark Shadwell racing in third at the halfway point. The caution came out on lap 13 as Shadwell lost his left rear tire and at the same time, Lawry Siemans blew up his motor. Rick St Pierre would pull away on the restart and would pick up the Vintage Car feature event.
Ken Winfield and Rob Ledingham led the field of Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Models to the green flag for their feature event and the field went three wide in turn three and it was Darren Peters coming out with the race lead. Rob Pietz would race his way into second place but Luke Carleton was able to get around Pietz for the runner up spot on lap two just as Mark Czuba would bring out the caution. The early race restart saw Peters pull away from the field as Ledingham moved back up through the field to take over the runner up spot. Rob Pietz would spin in turn three to slow the field down one more time on lap 15. The five lap shootout saw Peters try to pull away but Ledingham was there answering the call for the lead but Peters held on for the win. Rob Ledingham crossed the line in second but was found to be illegal in post race tech.
Kurtis Wiley and Brandon Iudiciani led the field of Trackside Decals Mini Stocks to the green flag and it was Iudiciani leading the opening circuits. Evan Curtis tried to go two for two on the weekend moved up into the runner up spot early on as the field went four wide for third place as Tyler Lafantaisie was able to move into the third spot. When the pack went three and four wide for the second time through three and four on lap 10, Curtis reeled in Iudiciani and was about to go side by side for the race lead when the caution came out for a spinning Katie Cosco. On the restart, Curtis went downstairs as Lafantaisie made it three wide for the lead on the white flag lap as Iudiciani would drive on to pick up his first win of the season.
Billy Smith and Marcel Beauregard led the field of Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks to the green flag for their 15 lap feature and it was Beauregard showing the way early. Then Beauregard got loose coming off turn four and qualifying event winner Brad Booker took over command. Chris Anderson lost his suspension in turn one to bring out the races first caution on lap one. Booker would pull away from Mason Smith and multi-time feature winner Sam Iftody on the restart and Iftody was able to drive around both Booker and Smith to take over the race lead with just three laps on the board. Iftody was on a Sunday night cruise and the battle was on behind him for position number two as Olivier Larocque was able to work through the field and move to the runner up spot before the halfway point.
Iftody was able to pull away and pick up his fourth win of the season. Larocque would finish in second and he was followed to the line by Beauregard, Smith and Kyle Tomaski completing the top five.
