STROUD, ON (May 15, 2018)- After feeling a top-five within grasp on opening night, Paul Maltese put together a solid performance en route to scoring a fifth-place finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

With the Sunset Speedway Late Models running a 60-lap main event instead of twin 35-lap features, they’d run a single heat to help set the starting line-up. Maltese performed well in the 10-lap affair, scoring a third-place finish.

Come time for the feature, Maltese found himself battling for fourth in the early stages at Lap 7, with that battling lasting until the first caution for a competitor having a flat tire up ahead.

Restarting just outside of the top-five, he’d find himself fourth as of Lap 13, battling with Nick Goetz for the spot a lap later. He’d slip back to fifth, but was able to maintain the track position until a battle with Ron Quesnelle at Lap 22. With the battle lasting for eight laps, it’d play into Maltese’s favor, as he was able to maintain the position. He remained in the top-five until being passed, dropping back to sixth with 20 laps to go.

He’d drop back to eighth at Lap 49, but was able to remain there until a pair of competitors went around further up ahead with four laps to go, bumping him up a pair of spots. Restarting sixth, he was able to get by Ron Quesnelle, scoring a fifth-place finish. Maltese now has a pair of top-10’s on the season, following a ninth on opening night.

The team will hope to run in the top-10 once again on Sunday, May 20 in the first round of the Great Lakes Concrete Series, which features a 75-lap feature as part of Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity.
