ELKHART LAKE, WI (August 9, 2021)- Porsche Carrera Cup North America qualifying was rained on Friday, August 6 with the teams heading straight into a doubleheader event on the challenging Road America road course.
Red Deer, Alberta’s Parker Thompson guided his No. 9 JDX Racing Porsche to a runner-up result in Saturday’s 45 minute opening round, crossing the stripe 1.880s in arrears of race winner Kay Van Burlo. Starting Sunday’s feature race from the outside of the front row, Thompson snatched top spot on the opening lap and survived multiple race restarts to claim the win. His margin of victory over runner-up Seb Priaulx was a solid 4.633 seconds at the checkered flag. The win was Thompson’s second of the 2021 campaign, solidifying his third place position in the standings with six events remaining.
PARKER THOMPSON:
“This weekend at Road America is a testament to the work that JDX Racing puts in day in and day out. It’s no secret that we have a limited testing budget this year compared to our championship rivals, and to completely turn our performance around from The Glen to a dominant win at Road America is pretty unheard of at this level of competition. There’s no better feeling delivering a burly outside pass in turn one and translate it to a dominant win when you have the group of guys that I have behind me! I can’t wait to bring the same fight at Indianapolis!”
Thank you to Byers Porsche, Porsche Cars Canada Ltd., Renier Construction, Surgere and SSi Artificial Lift! Without them, I wouldn’t have a shot at wins on the weekends.”
SEAN McALISTER:
“We struggled a little with the car in practice and missed out on Qualifying due to weather. I got a pretty good start in Race 1, I made a few small mistakes early in the race, but managed to claw my way back to finish 10th. Race 2 was much better, I was pressured from behind most of the race but just focused forward and drove a really clean, mistake free race, brining the No.11 Shell Tap Up / Byers Porsche home to a season best Top 5 finish.
Parker and I shared information we learned through our testing before the weekend which was beneficial to both of us, landing him a win and P2 finish. Thanks again to all the hard work from the whole team. I can’t wait for Indy!”
TIM PAPPAS:
“It was good to get back behind the wheel of the No.54 JDX Racing / Black Swan Cup Car. Rain washed out Qualifying on Friday, leaving me two short sessions to settle in behind the wheel. I managed to turn consistent, clean laps for both races, finishing Top 5 in class for what I would consider a successful, fun weekend. I was certainly reminded this weekend how intense and competitive Carrera Cup is. I am very much looking forward to Indy next month where lessons learned at Road America will pay dividends.”
JEREMY DALE, MANAGING PARTNER/JDX RACING:
“What a great weekend and I’m very proud of everyone on our race team. Parker, Sean and Tim all had a good race weekend and of course we are most happy that Parker won today, his second race win of the season. Sean claimed a Top 5 finish, while Tim narrowly missed a podium finish by about a second. The most important part of the weekend was that our results were based on lots of hard work from our drivers, crew and engineers and that process is what created our results this weekend. Of course what is nice about a weekend like this is it creates confidence. Confidence is one of those things that creates momentum, so I’m excited to get to Indianapolis in a month of so and continue the season in Carrera Cup North America.”
