Belleville, Ontario, (July 1, 2019) – Rounds five and six of the 2019 CTCC presented by Pirelli took place over the June 29/30 race weekend, with dual 40-minute contests headlining the CTCC Summer Challenge event at Shannonville Motorsport Park. Under summery weather conditions, Canada’s premiere sports car competitors raced Saturday on the full, 4.030-kilometre Long Track, while Sunday’s finale was staged on the high-speed 2.470-kilometre Pro Track.

In Saturday’s 40-minute weekend opener, Parker Thompson topped the GT Sport charts aboard the No. 1 New Roads/Team Speedstar Audi R8 LMS GT4. Front runner and points leader of his class, Parker holds a perfect record so far in terms of wins giving the impression to escape from anyone who gets to close to him. Damon Sharpe had a great run in his No. 84 Blanchet Motorsport Toyota GT86 and finished second. This came as a well-deserved recompense after a series of mechanical issues the team had to deal with since the beginning of the season. The car experienced problems on the second day and the team was not able to get a second race in the books.

Two competitors joined the GT Sport class this weekend. Fareed Ali took the third place of Saturday’s race and second place on Sunday’s contest in his No. 41 TWOth Autosport Porsche 997.2 C2S. Due to critical engine failure, Jocelyn Hébert (No. 89 89Racing Team Honda Acura TLX A-Spec) had to retire early on Saturday and was not able to compete on Sunday.

Out of the two class featured this weekend, the TCR class was found again to be quite an exciting competition with remarkable tight racing.

Matthew Taskinen (No. 23 TRC/M1GT Audi RS3 LMS SEQ) and TCR points leader Gary Kwok (No. 66 M&S Racing/Honda Civic TCR FK2) shared the wins over the weekend with Taskinen taking the first win on Saturday and Kwok winning on Sunday. This exchange of pleasantries between the leaders gave the fans fantastic battling to watch. Amongst the front competitors was Jean-François Hevey (No. 21 TRC/M1GT Audi RS3 LMS – DSG) who despite all efforts, was only able to get the third place on Saturday. On Sunday, it is Bob Attrell abord his No. 88 Hyundai Canada Racing/Hyundai i30N TCR (SEQ) who came in third.

With six races now in the record books, CTCC presented by Pirelli will start the second half of the 2019 campaign with their highly anticipated, annual appearance on the streets of Trois-Rivières over the August 9-11 GP3R race weekend.
