INNISFIL, Ontario — After a successful weekend to start their 2021 campaign at the beach, the Outlaw Midgets are set for their second event of the year, which is set for Sunset Speedway on July 17.
The season opener at Sauble Speedway consisted of a double header, whereas this feature is just two rounds of qualifying and one feature on the card for the stars of the series.
Mike Bradley will enter this weekend as the points leader, and can thank a runner-up and a victory at Sauble for that. Though as a whole, the success is no surprise as he has now scored 10 straight top-five finishes. There’s no reason he cannot carry the success into this weekend, having scored three runner-ups in the five Sunset Speedway dates on the 2019 calendar.
Wayne McKibbon is still looking for his first career feature victory, and will enter this weekend second in the standings, just four points behind Bradley. He had a good time at the beach with a fourth and a runner-up to mark four top-10 finishes in a row. He also knows what it takes to run well at Sunset having scored a pair of top-five’s including a fourth in 2019.
Larry Lawson, meanwhile, got to experience the thrill of a first career victory, with a trip to victory lane to start the weekend at Sauble. Following a fourth in the second feature, he enters this weekend third in points, five markers behind Bradley. He hopes to find the same success which led to a seventh in his first trip to Sunset in 2019, as he followed it up with four results outside of the top-10 in the four Sunset events which followed.
Jody Bound is probably glad to hear that Sunset Speedway is the next track on the schedule, after having a nightmare of a weekend at the beach. The past series champion struggled with issues both days of action, failing to finish both races. With having visited victory lane at Sunset several times previously including in 2019, it would certainly be the perfect rebound for him to experience.
Richard Woodland also knows what it takes to run well at Sunset, scoring a top-10 in each of the five 2019 events, including a third and two fifths. He enters this weekend looking for a good run, ranked fourth in the standings following a pair of thirds at the beach.
Rob Harrison may be the dark horse to watch, as it seems he gets faster with each bit of experience he gains behind the wheel. It showed at the beach with a fifth in both features, and he will hope to better the 13thfrom his first Outlaw Midget appearance at Sunset in September 2019.
Adam Tyo may be someone to watch, as he jumps behind the wheel of a midget following a short stint in the Ontario Pro Challenge Series. His return to the division resulted in a pair of sevenths at the beach to place him seventh in the standings entering this weekend.
Be sure to catch these stars, as well as several others on-track this weekend at Sunset Speedway. The track will also have their Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, and Bone Stocks in action.
Per COVID-19 guidelines, the track is allowed to host 75% capacity, and asks for fans to reserve their seats at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VApNbSxKc46fZQCha0yxCHnLxdSD6wujaJ4VeFgtaww/viewform?edit_requested=true.
