December 3, 2014- Even though the first green flag of the new season is still nearly six months away, excitement is building for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series.
With a number of teams already working on getting their equipment ready for next year and drivers coming into the fold from other divisions, there is a tremendous amount of buzz about OMRS in the motorsports community. Sunday, December 14 drivers and teams are invited to a pre-season registration session and rules meeting in North York. Richard Warnes – one of three members on the series executive – says it will be an informative session for new and existing teams and drivers.
“We’ve had some exciting shows over the years, whether at Mosport, Peterborough or Flamboro and that’s created some strong word of mouth,” said Warnes, on behalf of the group. “Our goal has always been to have a very competitive, but affordable series and from what we saw on the track in 2014, its working. Randy Hollingsworth, Bill Pickford and I aren’t just looking after the tour. We’re racing in it as well and that makes it easier to sell what we do to new teams.”
Even though dates for next year haven’t been finalized, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series is looking to increase the number of shows for 2015. The popular open-wheeled speedsters – who saw only one repeat main event winner in the recently concluded campaign – will be back on the familiar turf of Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval.
The group has been thrilled with the level of support they’ve received from J.P. Josiasse, Dave Sikma and the staff at Peterborough Speedway.
“The OMRS Driver Development Program, along with 2014’s first ever ‘Test a Mod’ day provided a chance to introduce participants from other divisions to what steering a modified is all about,” said Warnes. “With the backing of John and Frank Casale, taking our series to Flamboro Speedway also opened the door to a larger spectator base and anytime you can expose a quality product to a new group of fans is a win-win situation.”
