July 4, 2013 THOROLD, ONTARIO – – The Lucas Oil Slick Mist Family of Car Care products are set to assist Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee in welcoming back many old friends Saturday July 13th when the Thorold track celebrates it’s 62nd Anniversary Season.
Once again hosted by Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee headed by Chairmen Rick Kavanagh, the night salutes 62 years of dirt racing excitement at one of Canada’s oldest race tracks in addition to the annual Inductions into the L. St. Amand Enterprises Wall of Fame.
“Lucas Slick Mist out performs the competition,” acknowledges (Merrittville Speedway GM) Erica Bicknell-Jones, adding, “with the Jerry Winger Memorial on track for another season … the winner will surely have to shine as well.”
In the 62nd Anniversary Season, the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds will be featured in the Jerry Winger Memorial Lucas Oil Slick Mist 60 Main Event along with regular events for Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions – the Hoosier Stocks, Rick’s Delivery Sportsman, Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders, Vintage Cars and the J&S Heating and Air Conditioning sponsored division.
The Reunion Committee is also made up of former drivers – Jeno Begolo, Ted Renshaw Terry Huffman and it’s newest member – Bill Willard Jr. as well as Mark Swartz and the Speedway’s Erica Bicknell-Jones and Jim Irvine. Kavanagh is the son of former Speedway owner Ken Kavanagh who is also a Wall of Fame Member.
The Reunion Committee has made their selections for the 2013 Wall of Fame and like since the start – each year’s honorees do not find out until Reunion night.
A huge part of the night is all the reminiscing that takes place in celebration of the track’s now 62 consecutive seasons. The Drivers of the past enjoy meeting with the fans of today – many that can remember the early days of the sport. Just as drivers today can be second or third generation, so too are some fans.
Prior to race time race fans can look forward to meeting many of the families that have been integral in the success of the sport with a Generations Display along the L. St. Amand Enterprises Wall of Fame. Current generations will have their 2013 Race Cars on display next to their elder’s Wall of Fame Induction Signs.
“Similar to our fans and teams of today and throughout our history, Lucas Oil has a passion for auto racing,” added Bicknell-Jones, “we are thrilled to be able to announce the continuation of our partnership that showcases their high performance products.”
Race Teams from all of Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions – the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds, Rick’s Delivery Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites and Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders will once again compete for Best Appearing Car Awards presented by Lucas Oil Slick Mist at the annual Awards Banquet..
