BOWMANVILLE, ON – Kevin Lacroix won the Can-Am 200 and the first NASCAR Pinty’s race of the 2017 season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, part of the Castrol presents Victoria Day SpeedFest. Andrew Ranger, from Roxton Pond, QC and Gary Klutt, from Halton Hills, ON finished second and third, respectively.

Lacroix, of Saint-Eustache, QC, started the race from pole in the Bumper to Bumper / Total / Gates Dodge but relinquished the lead early to Ranger in the Mopar / Pennzoil Dodge. Lacroix had fallen back to 7th on lap 42 but two laps later thundered up to the lead. Rain started to fall in the final laps and a caution on lap 49 forced the race into overtime. Lacroix and Ranger swapped the lead several times on the final lap before Lacroix took the checkered. The margin of victory was 1.916 seconds.

Klutt, in the Pioneer Family Pools Dodge, passed 2016 series champion Cayden Lapcevich, of Grimsby, ON, in the Fastline Motorsports Dodge coming out of the final turn to earn his place on the podium.

In other action from Sunday, Jade Buford, of Brentwood, TN, swept the weekend winning his second Pirelli World Challenge GTS race in a row driving the Racers Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4, while 19-year-old Mason Filippi, from Alamo, CA in the Winding Road Team TFB BMW M235iR won overall in the Touring Car race.

Next up on the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park schedule is the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix, June 16 – 18, Father’s Day weekend. The weekend celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first F1 Grand Prix of Canada and features the FIA Masters Historic Formula 1 as well as the Canadian round of the 2017 Diamond Jubilee Formula Junior World Tour.
