ORLANDO, ON- Nick Ledson overcame a difficult qualifying session to salvage a second straight top-10 finish in Legends competition on Day 2 of the INEX Winternationals at Orlando Speedworld.
“I have to figure out how to lay down a decent qualifying time,” observed Ledson post-race. “My guys gave me an awesome car today, we were just behind the eight ball a little after starting deep”.
The Cookstown, ON native rolled off 16th on the grid, and wasted little time working his way through the talent-laden field.
“I knew I had to turn it on right from the drop of the green,” explained Ledson. “We had to pass a lot of cars in a short amount of time, and there really wasn’t any time for a feeling out process”
“30-laps isn’t a lot of time when you’re up against this caliber of competition,” continued the 2-time Ontario Legends Series champion. “You have to push the car every lap to try and find your way through the traffic”
After a caution-filled event kicked off the 5-day Mini Series on Monday, the Semi-Pro division enjoyed a near flawless race on Tuesday, with just a single caution period slowing the pace of the 30-lap event.
“Yesterday, it felt as though all the cautions fell our way,” said Ledson. “Today was a different story. There were a few moments where I really could have used one, and it just didn’t happen for us. I’m sure it was an awesome show for the fans – I hope everyone enjoyed it”
Ledson’s 10-position gain gave the team hope entering Day 3 of racing on Wednesday afternoon.
“We have a phenomenal car this week, there’s no question about that. I don’t think there’s any way I would’ve been able to make those gains today without the work my team has been putting in the last few days”
“We were bad loose yesterday, and my guys went back to the drawing board and came back with a package that really felt good,” continued Ledson.
“I’ve had a hard time adjusting to the qualifying format down here, and it’s not doing me any favours come race time. If I can get us a better qualifying spot tomorrow, we’ll be able to get up there and make a difference”
“This car has gotten better and better every day since we unloaded on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do on Day 3.”
