PETERBOROUGH, ON- With Peterborough Speedway’s ‘Ontario Legends Series’-sanctioned $1000-to-win event just days away, 2-time series champion Nick Ledson has his sights set on a big performance at his adopted home track.
If the $1000 payday isn’t enough, Ledson will enter Peterborough with redemption on his mind. After a frustrating outing at Sunset on August 8th that saw the standout grappling with an ill-handling car for much of the race’s 25-laps.
“We didn’t have a great car last weekend at Sunset, but we made the most of what we had,” explains Ledson. “We obviously didn’t have the finish that we were aiming for when we unloaded that afternoon, but we came away with a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t for this car. For me, that’s a successful day”
Ledson’s family-owned effort will now regroup, and set their sights on August 15th’s event at Peterborough that is likely to pit the team against divisional frontrunners from across the province.
“I love every chance we get to go back to Peterborough,” smiles Ledson. “We’ve had some phenomenal runs there in the last four seasons. At this point, it feels like home. We know exactly what it takes to win there, and hopefully we can put it all together on Saturday night”
“You’re going to see everyone take it up a notch on Saturday,” continues the defending Ontario Legends Series champion. “$1000 is a great purse for this division, and there’s a ton of bragging rights on the line on top of the money. There isn’t a team in the province with one of these cars in their shop that doesn’t want to win this race”
When asked if having top level teams in his backyard is at all intimidating, Ledson was quick to denounce the notion. Explaining that he hopes to see the top competitors from across Ontario unload at Peterborough on Saturday afternoon.
“I don’t find it intimidating at all. Having the best of the best in the pits is the best motivation there is. This team seems to perform at its best in big race situations. We’re not out here to cherry-pick competition. We want to race against – and beat – the best teams available. If we can do that, and cash a cheque for $1000 in the process, it’s going to take a few days to wipe the smile off my face.”
