PETERBOROUGH, ON- Eager to turn around a 2014 season wrought with mechanical issues, third year Late Model competitor Nick Goetz dominated Peterborough’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ invitational, leading over 40-laps for his first career short track victory.
“This is one of the most incredible feelings. I can’t believe we did it”, beamed ‘Livewire’ post-race. “This win is for every single member of my team that has worked so hard on this car”
“We’re only halfway through the season, we needed this turnaround in a big way”, continued Goetz. “We haven’t had the start we were looking for. It’s been mechanical stuff, wrecks and just general bad luck this year. That’s why this feels so sweet”
The Southampton, ON driver – with less than a handful of Peterborough starts to his credit – was the class of the field all afternoon, starting from the pole position in the 50-lap contest and withstanding a number of late-race charges from accomplished veteran Dan McHattie.
“Finally bringing home our first win is amazing all on its own, but beating a guy like Dan McHattie just takes this day to a whole other level”, smiled Goetz.
“I came into this division completely green three years ago”, said the Jason Hathaway-protégé. “This has been years in the making. I’ve been learning every single time I back this car out of the hauler. I can’t tell you how lucky I am to be surrounded by the people I have. There are some pretty incredible people that have taken me under their wing to teach me the ropes. They know who they are. And I appreciate them more today than ever before. Thank you”
With his ‘Chase for the Colours’ win, Goetz will start from the pole position at October 12th’s famed Autumn Colours Classic.
“Locking into ‘the Classic’ is exactly what we were hoping to do, today”, explained Goetz. “That takes a huge weight off of our mind. It’s the biggest show of the year, and draws a massive car count. Now that we’re qualified, we can start planning strategy and thinking about setup”
