(18 June 2021) – Markham, Canada: Multimatic Motorsports will campaign one of its Ford Mustang GT4 cars in the 2021 Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin. This new national series gets underway at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on 18-20 June.

A national championship in Canada is the perfect option for Markham, Ontario based Multimatic Motorsports. The team has traditionally travelled back and forth to the US running Mustangs in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge but with significant Covid-19 related travel restrictions still in force, a Canadian championship makes for far less complicated logistics at the present time.

Marco Signoretti will drive the #22 Ford Mustang GT4 at each of the six events in 2021, with each weekend consisting of two 40-minute races. This sprint race format places all of the focus on the drivers, with no pit-stops or strategy required, but Marco is fully up for the challenge.

“Having the opportunity to drive the Ford Mustang GT4 at the circuits where I grew up watching my heroes will be extremely special for me,” said Signoretti. “We have a great group, packed with experience and knowledge, which gives me a lot of confidence going into these race weekends. With their help, I look to develop as a driver and gain experience from this incredible opportunity. I am extremely proud to be representing Multimatic in this new Canadian series.”

Marco has strong form with Canadian national championships as he took to overall honours in the Nissan Micra Cup series during his rookie season in 2019.

Larry Holt, Executive Vice President – Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations, said: “It’s fantastic that FEL has created this new championship in Canada, giving the country’s top teams a place to race without having to endure the border crossing challenges caused by the pandemic. We will now have our US and Canadian teams fully engaged running the Mazda south of the border and Mustang in Canada. I take my hat off to my old friend Chris Bye for taking the initiative to put the series together. Twelve races over six weekends, at great tracks, with a sprint format is perfect for moving Marco to the next level in his career development. He proved his talent when we ran him in selective events in the past and now it’s time for a full season of racing in the GT4 Mustang. I am confident that he and the series is going to do extremely well.”
