(TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 7, 2013) A world leader supplying engineered components, systems and services to the automotive industry, Markham, Ontario’s Multimatic utilizes its motorsports department as a high-speed laboratory, where innovative engineering, creative thinking and rapid problem solving are the keys to success. Multimatic Motorsports programs include car design, engineering, testing and development, track support and turnkey competition management.

“Multimatic was originally a manufacturer of OEM parts but we realized that in order to remain viable, we needed to expand our product base, ” explains Sean Mason, Multimatic’s Motorsports Manager. “As our product lines became more technically sophisticated, we turned to motorsports as a test bed.”

Staying true to the corporation’s motto of ‘Strength Through Technology’ since its inception in 1992, Multimatic Motorsports has established itself as Canada’s premier motorsports organization, earning race victories across Canada and throughout the world. Multimatic Motorsports’ most notable accomplishment was a LMP 675 class victory at the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans, although this victory is easily rivalled by wins in the inaugural Rolex Daytona Prototype event at the 24 Hours At Daytona (2003), and the GT2 class victory (2006) in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Continuing their involvement in Grand-Am competition that has earned them championships in 2002, 2005 and 2008, Multimatic Motorsports recently returned from a strong showing at the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Daytona International Speedway. Led by third place Grand Sports class finishers David Empringham and John Farano, the Multimatic team completed the season-opening event by placing all four of their Aston Martin Vantage V8s in the top 12 in the finishing order.

“We actually had a pretty flawless run,” observed Mason. “A couple of late race incidents hurt us, ideally we could have placed all four within the top half dozen finishers.”

A strong supporter of Canadian motorsports, Multimatic will be bringing a pair of their Aston Martins to the Canadian Motorsports Expo, with the #16 Nick Mancuso/Frank Montecalvo car and the #71 Vantage piloted by Tonis Kasemets and Mike Marsal on display.

Concludes Mason, “We recently acquired Lola race cars which will be another outlet for us, working on their prototype program. At Multimatic Motorsports we like to think we’re just getting going, we have a lot of irons either already in, or ready to go into the fire.”

ABOUT MULTIMATIC MOTORSPORTS: For over 25 years, Multimatic has provided engineering, analysis, prototyping and testing services to the global automotive and motorsports industry. Multimatic employs a fully integrated product development process which ensures that all parts and system performance objectives, including manufacturability, are achieved.

Their motorsports arm has enjoyed success for almost as long, having captured championships in the Firestone Firehawk Series (1992) and the Canadian Endurance Road Racing Series (1993). Strong results and victories continued, highlighted by the LMP 675 win in the Millennium 24 Hours of Le Mans and the series’ first ever win in the Rolex Daytona Prototype class (2003). Beginning development of the Grand-Am Cup Mustang FR500C in 2004, Multimatic was rewarded with the championship the following year and in 2008. With the next generation Mustang Boss 302R, Multimatic entered the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in 2010/11 before bringing the Aston Martin V8 to North American circuits in 2012. Multimatic’s purchase of Lola race cars in early 2013 will continue the company’s growth and ensure the development process for the world-recognized Lola marque.
