A VERY positive story appeared in last Friday’s edition of the London Free Press / Brantford Expositor that could affect Jukasa Motor Speedway. The attention-getting headline read “Judge rejects Six Nations millionaire’s ‘suspicious’ will.” The gist of the story is the judge did not believe the will put forward by one of late track co-owner Ken Hill’s sons.
And here’s the good part – “Barring an appeal, Hill’s estate will now be divided among all his children (nine listed).”
Track manager Alex Nagy has maintained the track in “race ready” condition so here’s hoping. Hopefully NASCAR’s Ben Kennedy will be coming north of the border soon!
Jalopnik, my bible, recently ranked the toughest Formula One circuits. Number 1 – Monaco, number 2 – Monza and number 3 – Spa. I think they pretty much nailed it.
Among all the noise concerning the future of NASCAR’s playoff system there have also been a lot of comments about the All-Star Race and where to hold it. Do they want to spice things up? How about the top ten Cup points drivers, the top eight Xfinity drivers and the top six Truck drivers for a total of twenty-four running all together in one race. Right now, Xfinity and Truck don’t get an All-Star Race.
This proposed format would allow the announcement of THREE champions on a sports car-style podium! It would be very exciting to see the much faster Cup cars doing battle with the two slower classes. Bring it!!

As I was posting the results from Winchester Speedway, I was reminded of the mistreatment that Chase Pinsonneault’s grandfather Alex was given a little over thirty years ago. Alex, at the time, was the owner of a very successful tool and die company, Build-a-Mold, in Windsor. Alex and his son raced in both CASCAR and ASA.
Alex was not happy with the closing of his local stock car track, Checker Flag, and he set out to build another track in the Windsor area. He found a suitable location near Comber and proceeded to get the necessary approvals to build it. Everything was going along well until the Ministry of Transport informed him that he had to improve the cloverleaf at Highway 77 and 401 at HIS expense due to the anticipated increase in traffic to the track. TILT. Alex did what any smart businessman would do and he said fahgetaboutit!!
Instead, he purchased the US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, with the goal to maybe add an oval at the top end of the facility. That is why you will see US 131 as the sponsor on Chase’s race cars. The irony here is that in 1996 we stopped at the construction site of the new Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth and we got a tour of the place. The site manager told us that the State of Texas was rebuilding Interstate 35W to three lanes wide plus a new interchange with the North-West Connector (now Highway 114) at the state’s expense! Ontario, you underachieved!!
Apparently, NASCAR is coming down on spotters who mention the playoff points during the race. They feel it could lead to race manipulation. Really? The entire season is based on points, and every team is laser-focused on those very points. These teams even have strategists who do nothing but follow and analyze those very points. There is a LOT of money at the end of that rainbow!
It’s hard to believe that it has been 29 years since Linda and I, along with our two dogs, were driving out to the proposed site of the new Las Vegas Motor Speedway when an approaching convertible coming at us had five guys waving their arms at us. We were in our crew cab hauler after moving son Rob and his wife’s furniture to Fresno, California. We pulled over and it was London Super Modified driver Mark Sammut driving the rental car. Small world. At the time I sort of disagreed with the decision to build a racetrack out in the desert. Boy was I wrong!!

NASCAR Cup Series – Three Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas qualified in the top three spots of the field at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. Points leader Denny Hamlin led Chase Briscoe and Christopher Bell. 38 cars, 17 Chevs, 12 Fords and 9 Toyotas. Things went well until lap 71 when Ryan Blaney blew a left front tire and pancaked the wall hard. Yellow. William Byron won Stage 1.
Kyle Larson won the caution-free Stage 2. On lap 235 it appeared that Ty Dillon’s brain shorted out as he slowed for the pits out in the middle of the fast groove and Byron hit him HARD. John Hunter Nemechek also got collected. On the ensuing restart going into one the wrecks started!! Ty Gibbs tried to fill a hole that closed right up and he spun, collecting A.J. Allmendinger, Rick Ware (shocking), Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, Austin Dillon, SVG, Carson Hocevar, Todd Gilliland and Zane Smith. At my count, it was at least ten cars caught up in the wreck. At the flag it was Hamlin over Larson and Bell.
In the points Hamlin leads Larson by 4 and Bell by 19. The same order as the race finish.
Next race – Talladega, Sunday at 2 p.m. on TSN 5.
NASCAR Xfinity Series – Justin Allgaier nabbed the pole for Saturday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over points leader Connor Zilisch (both in Chev) and Brandon Jones (Toyota). 38 cars, 26 Chevs, 6 Fords and 6 Toyotas. The yellow came out on lap 25 for a big chunk of debris on the track just off corner two. Erik Almirola picked up the Stage 1 win. Almirola also won the caution-free Stage 2. On lap 171 Dean Thompson spun off corner 4 for the second race yellow. With seven laps to go, leader Zilisch got loose in 2 and Almirola got around him for the lead, a lead he would hold right to the flag for the win over Zilisch and Allgaier. I loved how they used the apron below the white line for passing!!
In the points Zilisch leads Allgaier by 38 and Jesse Love by 62.

NASCAR Craftsman Trucks – next race – Talladega, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Formula One – next race – COTA, Sunday.

IMSA – In Friday qualifying for the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, 53 cars took times. 12 P cars, 12 P2 cars, 10 PRO cars and 19 GTD cars.
In GTP, the Acura of Tom Blomqvist/Colin Braun/Scott Dixon took the pole over the Cadillac of Jack Aitken/Earl Bamber/Frederik Vesti and the second Acura of Tristan Vautier/Nick Yelloly/Renger van der Zande. In P2 it was the Oreca of Hunter McElrea/Steven Thomas/Mikkel Jensen.
In PRO it was the BMW of Dan Harper/Connor De Phillippi/Max Hesse ahead of the Lexus of Aaron Telitz/Ben Barnicoat/Kyle Kirkwood and the Corvette of Nicky Catsburg/Tommy Milner/Nico Varrone. The two Canadian Multimatic Mustangs qualified 7th and 9th. The Pfaff Lambo driven by Caldarelli/Mapelli and Canadian James Hinchcliffe started 53rd.
In GTD it was the Ferrari of Miguel Molina/Lorenzo Patrese/Roberto Lacorte that actually qualified quicker than the top PRO car followed by another Ferrari of Robert Megennis/Riccardo Agostini/AJ Muss and the Aston Martin of Rory van der Steur/Anthony McIntosh/Valentin Hasse-Clot. The Canadian AWA Vette qualified 19th in GTD. By the way, a special thank you to Racer.com for supplying the qualifying results in a format that is MUCH more user friendly than what is available on imsa.com. Well done.
Well, that didn’t take long. One minute in and they are wrecking. Four GTD cars out including Manny Franco in a Ferrari, Joey Hand in a Mustang, Brendan Iribe in a Ferrari and John Potter in an Aston Martin. It took twenty minutes to clear all the cars and the debris. The green was out for one minute and a full course caution came out for debris on the track. Only fifteen minutes this time.
By the one-hour mark it was interesting to see that the GTP cars were running 1st to 12th, the P2 cars were 13th to 24th and the entire PRO field (25th to 34th) was ahead of the top GTD car in 35th. An hour and a half in, the yellow came out again for debris on the track in corner 10. Just before the two-hour mark a car rolled to a stop on track resulting in a full course yellow. Just before the three-hour mark another yellow came out for the badly damaged Tower Motorsports P2 car.
At the halfway mark it was Jaminet in the Penske Porsche leading GTP, Lindh leading P2, Hesse leading PRO in a BMW and Mann leading GTD in a Ferrari. Just before the six-hour mark the yellow came back out for debris on the track. Surprisingly, considering that it was dark, they ran the last four hours caution-free. At the flag it was Earl Bamber in the Caddy over Roman De Angelis in an Aston Martin and Mathieu Jaminet in the Penske Porsche. Mikkel Jensen won P2.
Dan Harper in a BMW took PRO ahead of Nicky Catsburg in a Vette and Alexander Sims in the other Vette. The Multimatic Mustangs finished 4th and 5th in class while the Pfaff Lambo ended up 10th. Alessandro Pier Guidi won GTD driving a Ferrari over James Calado in another Ferrari and Jack Hawksworth in a Lexus. The AWA Vette finished 9th.
Overall, a really fun race on a really fun track. A really good way to close out the season.
NHRA – With three races to go the series stopped at Texas Motorplex on the weekend.
Top Fuel – Shawn Langdon laid down a 3.684 at 338.88 to top the 17 entries. Doug Kalitta ran 3.777 at 333.04 to beat Steve Torrence in the final. 6 upsets (lower qualified car wins) and 8 smokers (one or both cars have traction issues).
Funny Car – Austin Prock topped the 17 floppers with a 3.876 at 336.07. He went on to win the final over Ron Capps with a 3.959 at 328.30 when Capps’ chutes popped out just past the 60-foot clocks. 3 upsets and 6 smokers.
Pro Stock – Greg Anderson was the quickest of the 21 entries with a 6.497 at 209.88. Dallas Glenn won the final with a 6.605 at 208.89 to beat Aaron Stanfield. 5 upsets.
Pro Stock Bike – Richard Gadson topped the 16 entries running a 6.747 at 201.59. He won the final over Brayden Davis with a 6.796 at 200.37. 2 upsets.
Factory X – Lenny Lottig topped the five entries running a 6.911 at 198.41. He won the final over Conner Statler with a 6.973 at 196.18. No upsets.
Next race – Las Vegas, Sunday, November 2.
Winchester Speedway – In qualifying for last Friday night’s Winchester 100, Canadian upcoming star Chase Pinsonneault grabbed the pole. He led the race up until a restart on lap 92 but lost power and finished 8th. In qualifying for Sunday’s 400 lapper, NASCAR ace Ty Majeski won the pole. Canadians Cole Butcher, Pinsonneault and Kyle Steckly qualified 5th, 15th and 16th. Majeski won the race over Dawson Sutton and Butcher. Steckly ended up 7th, one of only eight on the lead lap, and Pinsonneault was 16th. AND Cole Butcher is the 2025 ASA/CRA Super Series Champion.
