BOND HEAD, ON- For the first time in almost a month, third-generation driver Branden Bullen will return to competition with the OSCAAR Modified Tour. The 19-year old will make his second career Open Wheel Modified appearance at Sauble Speedway on July 26th, as part of the lauded Rick Woolner Memorial.
“I’m at the point where I’m counting down the hours until we go back racing”, smiles Bullen when asked about his recent hiatus.
“Sauble has always been one of my favourite tracks to go to, I started out there in Junior Late Models as a kid, and I can’t wait to get back there”
‘The Bond Head Bandit’ hopes to contend for a top-3 in his second career memorial appearance, as he continues to improve in his sophomore campaign on the tour.
“As far as Modified racing goes, the Woolner Memorial is as big as it gets in Ontario”, explains Bullen. “We’ve been working almost nonstop to get this car to where we want it to be, there’s definitely no bigger stage than the memorial to show off our improvements”
“It’s huge just to be a part of the race, and to honour Rick”, continues Bullen, “I didn’t have the privilege of seeing him race, but from all I’ve heard he was a legendary competitor. Bringing home a trophy with his name on it would mean the absolute world to me”
Between Sauble’s challenging confines and the additional prestige of the Woolner Memorial, Bullen is quick to note the event has the potential for fireworks.
“This is a race that every single driver on this roster wants to win, so you know we’re all going to be taking it up a notch. Sauble doesn’t leave much room for driver error though, so hopefully guys are smart about the way they approach this race”
“My main goal is to survive the first half of the race, and have enough car left to try and make a run in the final few laps”, explains Bullen. “Our car has been strong in practice, I think as long as we can keep from getting caught up in something, we’ll be able to contend”
