THOROLD, ON – Two fast approaching events being held at the Grantham Lions Club will help to kick start the 2012 Season for Merrittville Speedway’s Tuesday and Saturday Night Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Drivers and Teams.Drivers looking to get a fresh start on the new season by cleaning the race shop and trailer of parts or those looking for spare equipment can do so at the Grantham Lions 1st Annual Racers Swap Meet Saturday January 7th at the North St. Catharines Club.

With Indoor and Outdoor spots available, Race Teams looking for further information can contact Grantham Lion and Racer Ron MacAulay via e mail at rmacaulay2@cogeco.ca or by phone at 905-675-9597. All net proceeds from the event will support local charities.

A little more than a week later, Merrittville Speedway will host a Rules and Registration Meeting for 2012 Kart and Stock Car Race Teams – Sunday January 15th at the same Grantham Lions Club.

“While many of our race teams are anticipating our Practice Days and April 28th’s Spring Sizzler,” relates GM Erica Bicknell-Jones, ” the afternoon sessions will detail any applicable rule changes and clarifications and drivers and crews will be able to purchase Memberships … Driver VIP Passes and Season Passes.”

The sessions will begin at 1 PM for all Tuesday Kart Weekly Racing Series Original Pizza Logs Divisions – the Drummond Home Hardware Novice 1, Tim Philips Garage KC Auto Parts Novice 2, RCM Racing Equipment Junior 1, Ed MacPherson Construction Junior 2, Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Flathead, Philbrick Farm & Garden Equipment Wilder Racing Engines Senior Animal and the Cassell Manufacturing Senior Flathead Divisions.

Kart Officials will discuss any applicable rule changes until 2:00 PM.

From 2:15 to 3:15 – the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders and Hoosier Stocks will be the focus.

The J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites will have the floor from 3:30 to 4:00 with the Original Pizza Logs DIRTcar Sportsman and Bobcat of Hamilton DIRTcar 358 Modified Session closing out the afternoon from 4:15 to 5:15 PM.

Both the Kart and Stock Car Sessions will have Merrittville Speedway Memberships available. Stock Car Memberships are $60.00 until March 1st when the price will increase to $75.00.. 2010 Driver VIP Passes are $ 200.00 for the 4 Cylinder Division and $250 for all others. Pit Season Passes are $375.00 and are only available until March 31st.

“If everyone takes a few minutes on the 15th,” adds Bicknell-Jones, “it makes the first few nights of the season so much easier … for our race teams and our staff alike.”

During the meetings – draws will also take place to set the line ups for the Race Cars and Karts that will be featured in both the Pen Centre and Seaway Mall Shows. Drivers must be current Merrittville Members to be eligible for selection.
