If Friday’s snowstorm was someone’s idea of an early April Fool’s Prank – we really can’t complain with the mild winter we’ve had now can we? We really can’t complain either since Merrittville Speedway’s Annual Spring Sizzler and the 61st season is now less than a month away! It’s an event that Merrittville Speedway Race Fans and Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Teams have been waiting for since the close of last season!
The Thorold DIRTcar sanctioned facility is set to open the 2012 Season and it’s 61st consecutive season Saturday April 28th with the Spring Sizzler.
“Everything is coming together now … leading up to March 31st … a large influx of drivers have been registering in advance of the deadline,” informs (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell-Jones, adding “it won’t be long before the beautiful weather we had a couple weeks ago will be back with us and the season gets underway!”
The Spring Sizzler will feature the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 DIRTcar Modifieds in a 50 lap $2,000 to win Main Event with the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman in a $700 to win 40 lap affair. The Hoosier Stocks will kick off their Duel on the Dirt Series against the Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks with their first Home Track $300 to win 30 lap tilt.
The J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites and Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders will take to the track for practice sessions only throughout the night.
“Race fans have been waiting since last fall for this season,” adds Bicknell-Jones, “with a good mix of rookies and veterans through all divisions … the racing is bound to be thrilling with just show up points on the line … what’s it going to be like when the real points begin … any Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Event this summer is going to be extremely exciting!”
Grandstand Gates open for the Spring Sizzler at 5:30. Showtime is 7:00!
