THOROLD, ON – For just the second time of the 2012 season, officials at Merrittville Speedway were forced to cancel it’s Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Program due to the day-long intermittent showers. Saturday, August 11’s CMH Sales & Leasing Help a Child Smile Night was set to unleash the annual Meridian Credit Union Kids Club Box Car Races, which will now be held as part of August 25th’s Pen Centre Night at the Thorold facility.
“The kids look forward to this event all summer … hopefully they can sit tight a little while longer,” said Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell-Jones. “Our next event already has a lot on the schedule so it only makes sense to delay it another week.”
Merrittville Speedway’s next event is Saturday, August 18, when Avondale Food Stores presents a Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Event that features the final round of the Turn 4 Collision Triple Crown Series for the 4 Cylinder Division.
Before the big dogs take to the track, dogs of all sizes will compete in the annual Best Appearing Dog Contest.
“So many race teams bring along their dogs,” said Bicknell-Jones. “This is a chance for race fans as well to bring their dogs along for an action packed night of racing as well … big or small – all are welcome!”
Kids wishing to still enter the Box Car Races on the 25th can find all the rules and regulations at the Speedway Office during the week at the Novelty Trailer during events or by clicking on http://www.merrittvillespeedway.com/meridiankids.htm
Entrants can use their own boxes or can pick up what is needed from the Meridian Kids Club Area behind the Turn 4 Grandstands on August 11 as their is a limited supply available. New dates for CMH Sales & Leasing and the Help a Child Smile Organization will be announced when available.
In addition to the Triple Crown Series Event, racing action Saturday, August 18, will feature Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions including the J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites, Hoosier Stocks, Original Pizza Logs Sportsman and the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds as the points races are heating up. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Showtime is at 7:00 p.m.
