June 4, 2013- After starting the 2013 season off with a win at Brockville Speedway last month, the following few weeks have not gone as planned for Brian “Slim” McDonald and the LaSalle Motorsports/KB Motorsports teams.  After getting caught up in a couple of crashes at Brockville and dealing with multiple rainouts at Cornwall Speedway and another at Mohawk Raceway it has been hard to build any momentum early in the season.

The plan this past weekend was the usual visits to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for a 50 lap Frenchie’s Modified Series/Memorial Cup Event, followed by a 50 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown series race at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night.  They planned to end the weekend at Cornwall for the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race.

Friday night got underway with a third place finish in his qualifying heat race after starting from the seventh starting spot in the KB Motorsports car. The finish earned McDonald a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the night’s 50 lap main event.  By luck of the draw, Brian rolled off the starting grid from the inside of the second row in the third position.  McDonald took advantage of a lap seven restart to take over the second position and over the next few laps found himself in a four way battle for the top spot.  The final restart of the race came on lap 18, and McDonald restarted in second.  For the remaining laps he battled hard to keep that second place spot and while doing so, lost site of the leader.  At the checkered flag, Brian crossed the finish line with a solid second place run.

Brockville Speedway was up next on Saturday night as Brian was back in the Mike and Lori LaSalle owned LaSalle Motorsports M96 car for the 50 lap Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown Series race.  It was hot and sunny when the race teams arrived but it didn’t take long for the clouds to appear and before the posted 7pm race time, the had a downpour of rain that left no doubt that the night’s events would be postponed.  Sure enough, the announcement was made and the 50 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series will now take place this coming Saturday night.

The Cornwall Speedway season opener had been postponed the previous two weeks and once again Sunday’s forecast looked unfavorable in the early hours of the day.  By the time the rain finally did stop it was too late as track officials were forced to cancel for the third consecutive week.  They will resume action this coming Sunday night, but the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race will now take place on July 1st for a spectacular Canada Day Weekend celebration that also includes a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race the previous day.

McDonald will have the night off on Friday night as the Modifieds are not on the schedule at Mohawk Raceway this weekend.  He will be back in the LaSalle Motorsports car at Brockville on Saturday night for the rescheduled Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series and will be at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday as the make another attempt to open for the 2013 season.

LaSalle Motorsports and Mike and Lori’s Northwood 2 Construction business, and Brian McDonald’s KB Motorsports West Front Construction team would like to thank their 2013 sponsors.  They include Home Hardware – Brockville, Kriska Transportation, Lundy Mechanical, Seaway Doors, Engine Research, Steve Polite Sand & Gravel, Splash Well Drilling and ShellShockLids.com.
