It was with high hopes that Daniel Bois and the #31 Sierra Excavating/A&G, The Road Cleaners Chevrolet team arrived at Exhibition Place in Toronto for round five of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series. With a seventh place finish a year ago the team was optimistic of improving on that performance. Those wishes were dashed early in the 35-lap race.
Through the combined practice and qualifying session, the #31 team worked to improve the handling and performance of the car, however Bois was only able to claim the 15th starting position for the feature race on Friday at the Toronto Indy weekend. Though disappointed the team felt Bois would be able to gain positions during the race and looked forward to the race.
The opportunity for redemption with the #31 car never materialized. As the field accelerated up to speed to take the green flag, suddenly cars in front of Bois slowed abruptly and the driver was unable to avoid contact with the car ahead of him. The #31 car suffered severe damage as a result of the hit and was forced to retire from the race.
Quote:
“I’m not even sure what to say after a day like this. We’ve had a fast racecar at each race this year but we’ve had some terrible luck. As we’re coming to the start, I guess one of the cars ahead of us had an issue and slowed and it was a scramble from there and I just didn’t get slowed down quick enough to avoid contact. I knew immediately that we’d suffered a serious problem and didn’t want to disrupt anyone else’s race, so I pulled off course. I feel bad for our team, the guys have worked so hard and having our race end almost before it starts really stings”.
