LONDON, ON – Defending Delaware Speedway champion Matt Pritiko wasted little time reminding his home track of what he’s capable of, with a win on opening night of the 2015 season last Friday.
Pritiko started in the 5th position and worked swiftly to advance his way through the field, eventually chasing down the leader on lap-19 before cruising to victory.
“We couldn’t have imagined this one any better,” beamed Pritiko. “Tonight was exactly the season opener we were hoping for at Delaware.”
“We were good all race. We just had to bide our time early and work through traffic. We had a chance to try out a few different lines and really find where the car wanted to go.”
“This car was so good last season, and our team has worked nonstop on it all winter to make it even better,” continued Pritiko. “So I had nothing but confidence coming into tonight. I knew that when the laps started to count, we would have something for the leader.”
When asked about the event’s pace, the London, ON native explained how the race’s long green flag made things interesting.
“When we moved into second, I could see the leader about a half straightaway ahead of us. I was hoping for a caution, but we were able to run him down under green flag conditions – so that’s a huge confidence booster.”
“Our best lap of the race was an 18.7 – the fastest we ran all last year was an 18.9,” said the division standout. “I know we can be even better as the year goes on. I have the best guys in the business working with me, and I’m excited to see where the season takes us.”
Pritiko continued to note that his team will utilize Delaware Speedway as a testing ground for what he hopes will be a championship with the APC United Late Model Series in 2015.
“We were trying something a little different tonight. That’s the plan for each of our Delaware races this season.”
“Our goal is to chase the APC United Late Model Series championship,” added Pritiko matter-of-factly.
“We had a decent car at Sunset last weekend, but we were better tonight. We’re gonna get this thing home and do some work. There’s a lot of potential here – but I know we can be a lot faster.”
Matt will return to action this Saturday, June 6th at Flamboro Speedway for Round 2 of the APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Products.
