LONDON (August 2, 2019)- ~ APC United Late Model Series championship hopeful Matt Pritiko will look to capitalize on this weekend’s back-to-back events at Sauble Speedway with what he hopes will be his second and third victories of the season.
Rounds 7 and 8 of the cross-province tour will take place at ‘the Beach’ on Friday and Sunday and will provide Pritiko the unique opportunity to either gain or lose significant ground in the points standings in a short period of time.
“When the season is over I think there’s a real good chance we’ll look back on this weekend as a game-changer,” offers Pritiko. “Wether we finish well or not, these two races will have a huge impact on where we end up in the (points) standings at the end of the year. We know just how important this weekend is for us”
Pritiko will enter Friday’s 100-lap event 2nd in the series’ points standings, just six-points removed from current leader Shae Gemmell.
However, when asked if his championship pursuits will at all impact his outlook for the upcoming doubleshot, Pritiko explains that he’s trying his best to take things one step at a time.
“We’re trying to push the points (standings) out of our minds as much as we can to prepare for these two races,” explains the well-spoken London, ON native.
“These two races are different than anything else we’ll do all season because of the short period of time between rounds. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you start thinking about how much Friday’s race can impact the way we perform on Sunday”
“We can’t treat our race-prep any differently though,” continues Pritiko. “These are two separate races and we need to make sure that we do everything we can to give ourselves a chance at winning each of them. We’re preparing to come out and run up front. Everything else will take care of itself”
Pritiko’s last Sauble APC Series appearance resulted in an August 2018 victory that his McColl Racing Enterprises-supported team will look to build on this weekend.
“I love going to Sauble because it fits my driving style so well,” says Pritiko. “It’s a place where, as soon as I unload, I feel like I stand a good chance of contending”
“It’s hard to explain what that type of familiarity and confidence can do for you on raceday. We’re excited to have two chances at a speedway that we’ve performed so well at in the past.”
