LONDON, ON- Reigning Delaware Speedway Pro Late Model champion Matt Pritiko will open up his 2015 campaign with the opening round of the upstart APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Products at Sunset Speedway on May 23rd.
The 100-lap event has drawn the interest of Pro Late Model stars across Ontario, and will match Pritiko against the best of the best in an ‘All Star Race’ environment.
“It’s tough to wrap your head around just how many top-shelf teams are coming out for this tour,” says Pritiko when asked about Saturday’s field. “It feels like every championship-caliber team in the province has expressed interest in being a part of this show. It’s going to make things a little more tense than usual when time trials roll out, that’s for sure”
Pritiko will follow the entirety of the tour in 2015, with eight events at five speedways, in search of the inaugural championship.
“Our goal, without question, is to become the first ever APC Series champions,” confirms Pritiko. “With that being said, we’re taking the big-picture approach to this season. Race by race, lap by lap – we just want to focus on consistent finishes and let the points take care of themselves”
“I think, too often, drivers get so wrapped up in winning a championship that they end up hurting themselves,” continues Pritiko. “You can’t win a championship if you’re coming off the track on the back of a tow truck every week”
“We’re looking at this season as one race at a time. We’re focused on winning at Sunset right now, and then we’ll take a look at winning the next race after that. We feel as though approaching the season this way allows us to keep our focus”
Despite fashioning a career year last season, Pritiko’s team made wholesale changes over the Winter, with hopes of improving their program for 2015.
“We had a great year in 2014,” smiles Pritiko. “We won the Delaware Speedway championship as well as the Grisdale Triple Crown Tournament. However, when we got back to the shop in the Fall, we all agreed that there was room for improvement”
“We’ve made a lot of changes to our car – and I’m confident we’ll be even stronger than we were last season,” continues Pritiko. “We’ve been fast at Sunset in the past with our old setup. If we can find some speed with this new package, I’m confident we can race our way to the front and be in the mix when the laps start to count.”
