LONDON, Ont. – August 4, 2017 – Matt Pritiko is eager to return to action behind the wheel of his Global Warranty/Burwell Autobody No.21 Toyota Camry following a three week break. Pritiko has a perfectly prepared McColl Racing Enterprises ride to roll to the line for the Spira Fire Protection Beat the Heat 100 with the APC United Late Model Series at Sauble Speedway on Saturday, August 5.
The former Delaware Speedway champion has sat idle since the Series last competed at Flamboro Speedway on July 15. After two weekends off, Pritiko is excited to return to the track for the Series’ lone visit of the season to Sauble. The extended break at the halfway point of the season came at the right time for the No.21 team.
“It’s perfect. It gives you just enough time to go through the whole car and nit pick at it,” Pritiko said. “We had a chance to do that and McColl Racing did that as well. We got all the bugs out of it and I’m looking forward to getting it back on the track. It’s been a long two weeks off.”
Pritiko is genuinely excited to return to Sauble, where he is the Series’ current track record holder after setting a blistering lap of 14.307 seconds at the event last year. He also won the inaugural APC Series visit to ‘The Beach’ in 2015.
“We won there two years ago and finished on the podium last year. It’s a quick, tight track and it’s fun to drive,” Pritiko said.
The London, Ont. native will rely heavily on his previous success as well as experience from this season to help get his No.21 car to the front of a talent-laden field.
“We’ve had success there, so we’re going to carry forward the tools and the setup we’ve had in the past,” continued Pritiko. “It’s nice knowing we do well there because we’re still looking for our first win this year. We’re definitely a podium car now that everything’s straightened out. We’re looking to set another track record like we did last year to get on the pole.”
The path to a win at Sauble will start as soon as the car is unloaded Saturday afternoon. A strong afternoon practice session will mean a preferred time trial position as the qualifying order is determined by reverse practice speeds. Time trials will be the key to starting up front and succeeding in the 100-lap main event.
“It’s about qualifying on the pole again,” Pritiko stated as a matter of fact. “You have to qualify in the top-five, because of the pill draw, to have a shot at the pole. It’s too hard to win these races coming through the field. There’s so many cars in such a tight area.”
Pritiko hopes to achieve his first win and third top-five finish of the season and is coming off a third-place result at Flamboro Speedway on July 15. For additional information on the Spira Fire Protection Beat the Heat 100 at Sauble Speedway on August 5, visit www.apcracingseries.com.
