FLAMBORO, ON- Rising star Matt Pritiko claimed his first career Late Model championship on August 17th, earning Flamboro Speedway’s Grisdale Triple Crown Championship following a 3rd place finish in the final round of the lauded mini-series.
The London, ON native – a 3-time Delaware Speedway championship runner-up – entered the event having swept the first two rounds of the tournament, and finishes the series with one of the most impressive records in the Triple Crown’s 11-year history.
“This is huge for our entire team”, beamed Pritiko post-race. “It feels so good to finally clinch a championship. We’ve been so close, so many times. These guys work their butts off, they deserve this”
In addition to his Triple Crown success, Pritiko also finds himself atop the Delaware Speedway weekly points standings as well as the Delaware/Flamboro co-promoted APC Six Pack Series standings.
“2014 has been a dream year for us”, said Pritiko. “This is – by far – my best season in a Late Model. It feels as though all the work we put into this program over the off-season is starting to pay off”
“Winning our first championship just motivates us to want to go out and do it again”, continued Pritiko. “I would have never dreamt we’d be in position to win three championships by the end of the season. That would be a career highlight, without question”
Pritiko will now shift his focus to the Delaware Speedway weekly points battle, as he continues to lead former champion Mark Watson by 34 points with just two events remaining.
“We just have to stay focused”, replied Pritiko when asked his strategy to clinch Delaware’s championship. “There are two points nights left – and I’d love to go out and win both of them – but we have to race smart. Mark’s a veteran, and a true competitor. He’s been here before, and if we give him an opening he’s going to be all over us. It’s my job to make sure that doesn’t happen”.
Matt will be back in action this Friday, August 22nd at Delaware Speedway. Details for the event, including gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.DelawareSpeedway.com.
