PETERBOROUGH, ON (August 16, 2021)- Some racers find they have a special feel for certain tracks on the circuit.
Over the years, Matt Haufe has found that Peterborough Speedway fits perfectly in his racing wheelhouse. Saturday, August 14 the Stittsville, Ontario speedster picked-up his latest Ontario Legends Series win at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Oval.
Taking the green flag from outside the third row, Haufe wasted little time in joining his Canadian Legend Car teammates Kevin Foisy and Parker Traves in their pursuit of early race leader Nicholas Ledson. It was almost like the trio was locked together as they hunted-down the car at the front of the field.
Shortly after the pace was slowed for a pair of quick yellow flags, Haufe had moved into the runner-up and began a battle for the lead with Ledson that reminded fans of their checkered flag fight during the 2021 season kick-off at Peterborough. After another caution period for an incident in the third turn, Haufe took control of the field.
The pair would swap the position back forth during the closing stages of the 25-lap affair, but not even a late race yellow with just a handful of laps remaining could deny Matt Haufe another trip to Peterborough Speedway’s victory lane. Foisy and Traves followed the No. 7 car across the line. Ledson and Adam Cuthbertson completed the top five.
Heat winners: Matt Haufe (x2), Kevin Foisy, Parker Traves
