CHARLOTTE, NC – This past weekend at the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Series Awards Gala in Charlotte, NC NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Driver of the #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge Martin Roy was recognized as the 2012 Rookie of the Year. Achieving the award was a goal for Martin and the team at the start of the season and their success has only served to motivate the team further for 2013.
The Napierville, QC driver’s initial full season in the Series was full of firsts and accomplishments as they burst onto the stock car circuit. Roy coming together with NASCAR veteran Mario Gosselin gave the team a steady hand to direct his full season effort and as the season went on the results showed. “We had some learning to do early in the year but as the season went on we got stronger and stronger” said Roy.
As the season went on the #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge became a familiar sight racing at the front of the field. Roy would lead a series race for the first time at Barrie Speedway and then do the same the next week at Riverside Speedway. “It shows how far this team has come from the beginning of the season” said Roy. “We were in the hunt and put ourselves in position for good results” he added.
Posting six top ten results and two top five finishes in the #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge enabled Martin Roy to secure the Rookie of the Year title and also ranked eighth in the overall Driver Standings. In addition Roy also secured the Coca Cola Move of the Race award and was presented with the trophy at the breakfast ceremony to honor Touring Series winners. “We’re already working very hard getting ready for next year” said Roy. “The team is already preparing to run the Battle at the Beach at Daytona during Speedweeks.
