ST. JOHN’S (February 22, 2017) – Targa Newfoundland is proud to announce that international motorsports powerhouse Lucas Oil Products has signed on to be a Gold Partner for the 2017 Targa Newfoundland. It will be the eighth year in a row that Lucas has been involved with Targa on this sponsorship level.

Lucas Oil Products, which started sponsoring Targa in 2009, is the official motor oil and additive provider for the event. It has once again decided to continue its involvement in the only Targa motorsports event in the Northern Hemisphere and North America. The unique type of motorsport, assortment of weather conditions, and the different types of engines present throughout the classes and divisions of the event, has given Lucas Oil Products an incredible amount of testing time during the previous seven years, and the brand is strongly associated with the event throughout the province.

Lucas has a simple philosophy of producing only the best line of lubricants and additives available anywhere. Since its inception, Lucas has steadfastly adhered to this corporate objective. Through innovative product research – such as the research done at Targa Newfoundland – along with an aggressive marketing program, Lucas has established itself as a top selling additive line in the North American truck stop industry.

Lucas has long been directly involved in the North American racing industry through multiple vehicle sponsorships and racing event promotions, at all levels. Seeing a need for better lubricants in this industry, developers at Lucas have produced a line of high performance engine oils and gear oils that are second-to-none in the racing industry, and are used annually at Targa Newfoundland.

“Lucas Oil Products USA is proud to be partnered again in 2017 with Targa Newfoundland,” explained Tom Bogner, Director of Motorsports for Lucas. “We all enjoy the connection with our love of motorsports. We wish Targa and your competitors a very safe and enjoyable racing season.”

“Extremely pleased to have Lucas back for an incredible eighth year,” an excited Robert Giannou, President of Targa, expressed when asked about his feelings of the renewed contract. “Lucas is one of our longest consecutive sponsors, and one of the biggest sponsors we have had over our 16 year history. The fact they continue to support our exciting and unique motorsports event speaks volumes to the commitment and hard work both Lucas and Targa put into continuing this partnership on a yearly basis.”

Lucas Oil Products will be represented at Targa by Territory Manager John Coyle, who annually makes the trip from Halifax to witness the event and ensure Lucas products are available to competitors and fans. Lucas will have products available for all competitors of this year’s Targa, to be provided on site at Registration Day, September 9th. John will be on site throughout the week to answer questions from the public regarding Lucas Oil Products and what specific lubricants would work best for their own vehicles.

Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world. The 2017 competition will start in St. John’s on September 10th and concludes back in the capital on September 15th. The annual rally will cover more than 1,600 kilometers of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of Newfoundland, including over 440 kilometers of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
