STAYNER, ON- Months removed from his first career Sunset Speedway weekly championship, veteran Dwayne Baker has announced he will follow the entirety of the 8-race United Late Model Series presented by APC.
‘The Bully’ will campaign a Port City chassis acquired from former ARCA/CRA Super Series titlist Johnny Van Doorn, with hopes of earning his first career touring championship.
“I think this tour is exactly what Ontario needs right now,” says Baker from his Stayner, ON race shop. “The Pro Late Model division needs something to push it back into the spotlight, and there are drivers everywhere that are looking for more meaningful events. This is the best of both worlds”
“We’ve had this chassis for a year now and haven’t had the chance to race it much,” continues the 45-year old. “It’s been to New Smyrna and Toledo and has shown a lot of potential. We’ve put a lot of hours into it over the off-season, and I think it’ll give us a good chance at some solid outings on the tour”
Baker joins a growing list of drivers to announce their intentions of following the cross-province tour, and hopes the tour’s flexible schedule attracts even more of Ontario’s elite-level competition.
“I think [United Late Model Series promoter] Luke [Ramsay] has done a fantastic job with the schedule,” opines the 2-time Autumn Colours Classic champion. “Racing twice a month is just enough to keep a team active, without having to worry about burning guys out”
“Seeing the level of talent that’s already committed to the tour has me excited for the season opener. Our team has always been about racing the best competition available, and I think that’s exactly what we’re going to get this summer”
“I’m proud of what we were able to do at Sunset last season,” continues Baker. “We’ll still be racing at the weekly level as much as we can, but as of right now our priority will be the United Late Model Series. It would mean the world to us to win that championship.”
Baker’s 2015 season will carry marketing support from Zancor Custom Homes, G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore, McGunegill Engine Performance, Four Valley’s Excavating, Clearview Heating & Cooling, Baker Performance Parts and Nisco National Leasing.
